In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. Hello
I got a Himayalan cat i love so dear. I got her at age 8 weeks old around Christmas time 2000. Now since we moved in with my father in law that he got a taco bell dog for Christmas she has changed a bit. Now she never did this to us what I about to say. It started last night noticeing something was wet on our bed. We had to clean Our bed all over the place. Now I just went to take a nap which I didn't get to do because of this. She then did Number 2 on our bed and on top of a blanket that my husband Mother (Deseased) Made for him. I don't know what to do with this and I am getting to the Point that I wanna give up on this Himmy. I don't know if i can give her up. She was a Christmas gift from my aunt my mom's twin. Let me know if you anyone of you had this problem with this type of breed or know anyone.
Thanks
Karrie

we've hads 2 him's and they sorta fo where thay please 60-99% of the time. she'll do fine with it a while, then she'll go wild with it and gon wherever. now, if she does, it usually means she's mad about something. too much dry foo, not enough people food, clean the litter box (she's real picky about her box)

of course, our cats NEVER used a bed...

we kept the other cat in the kitchen (we have a big kitchen) most the time because she just didn't use the litterbox. ever. (ironically, she died next to her box...but that was a few years back)

Sounds like your cats stressed out! Whenever a cat stops using the litter box, it's a good idea to take him to the vet for a checkup. My understanding is that persians and himalayans get urinary tract infections pretty easily, and will stop using the litter box because of it. You'll also be able to discuss treatment options with your vet if the kitty is in good health. There's a product called Feliway that you can probably find at a Petsmart or Petco that's supposed to help stressed out cats calm down. There's also some drugs that you can get from your vet to help a stressed out cat, but that would be for your vet to determine if it would be best in your situation. I personally would try confining the cat to one room, away from the dog for a bit, until she's adjusted, but I don't know how feasible that is for you.

A new home and a new dog would cause problems for many cats, and unfortunately, giving up on her is not going to help her situation any.

It really does seem like the stress of a new home and a strange animal. You could try confining her to one room for a while, and keep her litter box in there. When she is used to that room and comfortable, take her out to the next room. Let her smell the dog occassionally from under the door, until she gets used to the dog's smell. The behavior books say that you are not supposed to just throw a cat into a totally new situation like that, it's supposed to be a more gradual, room by room introduction. Good luck!!!!! *Hugs!*

If I can understand what you said, you (1) moved to a new house and (2) the new house has a dog. I assume you haven't changed her diet and that she was healthy at her last vet checkup.

Is this the first time your cat has moved to a new home?

Has your cat ever been around dogs before?

Hello
She was near dogs where she was Born where my aunt breeded her. Plus, My sister in law gave my father in law a chiluhea dog for Christmas and we been moved a month or so before that. She had never moved except from my parents house to my husbands apartment before we gotten married. But after that for three years or so she was ok.

Is there a way to keep the door closed to keep your cat from getting into your room? Also, make sure that you've introduced the cat to its litter box location (place the cat in the litter box a few times a day to let her get familiar w/it).

Ya might wanna bring her to a vet too! When my kitty starting peeing outside her litterbox, it was the symptom that let us know that she was in the early stages of kidney failure (it's not uncommon for female felines).

Bottom line: bring her to a vet before ya bring her to the pound!

Updates on my EVE the Himayalan Kitty.
My husband came back 30 mins ago and told us the vet we had her go to and he brougght her to there said a few things. The Vet said she has a Urnie tract infection and needs to be on medication. Also We need to keep the doors closed to all the bedrooms until she is well again. Also she is adjusting to the new environment when we moved in the mid Autumn. She knows where her Litter box is at so she knows where to go. Just Pray that she gets better sooner or later.
Thanks for the kind info and guidence.

Glad to hear you got the problem diagnosed. Hope she gets over the urinary infection soon.

It sounds like she had one month to acclimate to the new house before the dog arrived. Even if she was around dogs while a kitten, your cat is older now and aging cats tend to want serene environments. I would have a talk with the other adults in the house about what happens if your cat and the new dog are simply not compatible. The new dog might need to be returned for adoption.

Also, I don't know what you feed her but it might be time to switch to an adult food that has a component for urinary tract health. If she got it once, an infection will probably occur again so you need to think ahead. Your husband did the right thing by taking her to the vet! :)

Anyway, you seem to have control of things now and hope your cat is back to 100% soon.

Well, The dog is small and in a cage and he has his own room and i don't think the dog is working out here but , who knows. I am feeding her cheap dry cat food. I might look for dried cat food for urinary tract next time she is out. I called the vet this morning and they took her in a few hours after my call. I said to my father in law our pets gets into to see the doctors sooner then we see ours LOL.

Depending on how tight money is, you can always get the red bag of "Special Kitty" food from Walmart. I don't claim to be an expert, but someone pointed out to me that by getting the "quality" brand food that is $1 to $1.25 a pound as opposed to the $0.50 a pound for cheap stuff, you ultimately save on vet bills over the course of a cat's life. You can buy in bulk or watch for coupons. Again, I am not fully knowledgable but quality food is the easiest way to keep a cat healthy.

Anyway, hope your cat recovers and that is the most important thing. :)

I'm glad to hear it's going to be ok with your cat!! :) My cat can't stand the chihuahua next door. My neighbor and I tried introducing them, but the chihuahua was too excitable and my cat got scared.

Quality kitty food is a must to keep those urinary tract infections away. I've had two cats with this, and the food made all of the difference in the world when I finally found out the cheap food was basically the cause of it all.

Hope your Himmie does better soon. :) I love Himmies.
