Why would she need to do all this extra work if they are just personal e mails? Looks like she has something to hide.
I destroy my hard drive when I get a new computer. It's not that uncommon.

So do I. Your hard drive may contain financial information, banking, your social security number, emails sent between family members about family issues, etc. I don't know anyone who would want to share these things with the world at large.

Guess this means Hillary was a lot more careful with security than the Right Wing wants us to swallow.

Yep, especially when she can't recognize classified information when she reads its. She depends on others to mark it for her so she will know! Maybe she will get better advisors this time around!

It's a PLUS for BleachBit though! It's not a cloth, but a piece of software that stifled her investigation. lol I guess they didn't mark the software properly either! (snickers)

haha good point. "BleachBit. It's so good, even the FBI can't get past it. Just ask Hillary!"

She did not care how the server was compromised by the Chinese, she is only interested in the security of her candidacy. Hence why she wiped all evidence before turning it into congress.

You have to write over the whole drive to erase what is on there.

The point of BitBleach and similar tools is that you don't, when dealing with single files.

If you are throwing a drive away, physically destroy it, it's faster.

If you want to destroy something on a still active drive, BitBleach et al are the way to go, and will generally only require an extra click of your mouse.

Government officials being taught to use such things across the board is a sensible approach, IMHO.

This is from the NYT article
When the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said on Tuesday that his investigators had no “direct evidence” that Hillary Clinton’s email account had been “successfully hacked,” both private experts and federal investigators immediately understood his meaning: It very likely had been breached, but the intruders were far too skilled to leave evidence of their work.

It most likely was, the fact that it was completely open to a breach says a lot about how careful she is with national security.

I guess it means Hillary wanted to ensure that the emails she deleted could not be recovered, for whatever reason.

So when it came to protecting sensitive information from America's enemies, a system with less vigilance than Google gmail was deemed sufficient for this woman, but when it came to covering her own butt, nothing but the best system available would do.

That sounds like a typical Clinton set of priorities.

Apparently it is not the best system.

If a foreign government has these emails, and if they are compromising in some sort of embarrassing personal way to Clinton, if she is elected, then they will be used as leverage which will affect US government policies, such as with Russia or China.
She will seek to keep them undercover and never will they be exposed. Perhaps a wikileaks group will hack the hackers and expose them someday.

She remains a huge security risk for the US, for us, if elected, and if not elected.

Apparently it was good enough that 30 000 e-mails will never be recovered by the FBI or anyone else. The only places these e-mails still may exist is on the servers of Russian or Chinese hackers, or some of the other enemies of America who intercepted them.

Several years ago I was working for a company from my home. I used my personal email account for everything. I did save all company related emails in a separate folder from my saved personal emails and deleted the rest.
It never once occurred to me that if this company were to be investigated by the IRS or the Labor Department that they would want to see the emails that we had exchanged. That the investigators would be searching through all my personal emails looking for company related emails and that they may question the emails that I had deleted.

It's still speculation, though. Something might have happened that left no trace, or something might not have happened. No one can say with any kind of certainty either way (unless involved in breaching the server, obviously).

What protection measures were in place to prevent a breach, or what was not installed? As you are obviously an expert on email server security?
