MAGA has become a cult, but deprogramming is not the way to go.

Theodore "Ted" Roosevelt Patrick, Jr. (born 1930) is an American deprogrammer and author. He is sometimes referred to as the "father of deprogramming."[1][2]

In the 1970s, Patrick and other anti-cult activists founded the Citizens' Freedom Foundation (which later became known as the Cult Awareness Network) and began offering what they called "deprogramming" services to people who wanted a family member removed from a New Religious Movement. Patrick's methods frequently involved abduction and forced confinement, which led to him facing multiple criminal charges and civil proceedings. He was eventually convicted of a number of crimes, including kidnapping, false imprisonment and conspiracy.

Deprogramming involves illegal use of force by unauthorized people, against law-abiding citizens. How will copying MAGA tactics get someone to leave MAGA?

All I am looking for is a simple statement that in America, we do not deprogram/reprogram those who disagree with our political opinions. There is no need for long explanations of why Trump is a bad man and the people who support him are bad too. Just a simple statement.
"No, as much as we do not like them or their positions... we do not reprogram/deprogram those on the political opposition."
What is disturbing is that people not only refuse to denounce her suggestions outright... but that they seem to be supporting the background idea.
So let us sum this up Maga lives an alternate reality. But you better know that there is no male or female gender. If a man tells you he is a woman you better see a woman.

This stuff is so convoluted, upside down, and inside out that half the time I cannot tell if it is the pro supporting their position or the con being sarcastic/facetious. It sounds the same.

Poe's law is an adage of internet culture which says that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, any parodic or sarcastic expression of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of those views.[1][2][3] The law is frequently exploited by individuals who share genuine extremist views and, when faced with overwhelming criticism, deflect by insisting they were merely being satirical.

Is this the same Hillary that stood by her husband who lied under oath while President?
That was Melania. Although we haven't seen much of her these days. Maybe she finally got tired of him doing it.

Ok but I missed where this thread was about Trump. Maybe start a new one and we can discuss there.

Ok but I missed where this thread was about Trump.
It was the "lying under oath part" that concerns Trump. And it now appears that Melania has pretty much abandoned Trump as he gets more and more unhinged, and deeper and deeper into trouble, so I guess you have a point.

I think that Hillary's response is a caricature, and represents a stylized
political response. I do not take Hillary's opinion, seriously.

I think, though, that America is facing a serious crisis in Epistemology
(the philosophical study of what Truth is, and how to demonstrate that
a proposition is True, and what relevant evidence is, for that
demonstration...).

Although the younger American generations might not like this, the
"electronic screen" generations (starting with the Millenials) have
increasingly lived in an electronic bubble of their own making, by
spending hours a day on social media.

Social media is designed to addict. And social media algorithms are
designed to accentuate certain types of inflammatory opinions, by
promoting them to prominent display in discussions.

In social media, we choose what we want to see and read, and we are increasingly surrounded
by people who like what we say, and agree with us (regardless of how ludicrous our
opinions may be).

The corrective for Christians, is to withdraw from these fake reality bubbles, and
seriously discuss what "our shared reality" is, from a Christian worldview. And, I
haven't seen ANY Christian congregation, doing this. The broad topic of
Epistemology, and how to justify that a personal opinion is True (or False),
are NOT topics that pastors and teachers wish to address!

I started a thread called "Formal Logic: How to justify that initial premises
are True" to present material that I think all Christians need to engage with.
---------- ----------

There is a MORAL-ETHICAL OUGHT for Christians to recognize what our
shared reality is, and properly observe and evaluate evidence from this
shared reality, and respond to this evidence. This is because one of the TEN
big commands is "You shall not lie". And lying, is defined by bearing false witness
about our shared reality. And, persistent lying will keep us out of the kingdom
of heaven. This is serious.

In the Christian worldview, our shared reality (as presented by the Bible), is
unified and fixed. It is not personally defined by "what I think is..." or "what
I believe is...". What lying is, is not different for every person. Because, in
the Christian worldview, reality is not relative, for every person.

We intuitively know this, when our (shared value) conscience tells us what is
evil, and what is righteous. We intuitively know this, when we believe that
there can be a fair rule of law. We intuitively know this, when we realize that
a fair rule of law is based on sound evidence, and sound evidence is
information that is gathered from our shared reality. "Justice" cannot exist,
if there is no unified and fixed shared reality. Intuitively, we know this.
---------- ----------

We should not be upset, when one fruitcake (I refer to Hillary Clinton,
who in the 2016 presidential election mocked religious conservatives as
if they were all idiots), asserts that her political opponents ought to be
deprogrammed. (This is abusive language that is more keeping with the
Communist Party in China). But, the radical conspiracy theory guys are
ALSO fruitcakes. Just because one fruitcake insults other fruitcakes,
it doesn't demonstrate that the targeted group is in touch with reality.

Read the thread on Formal Logic, and justifying that initial premises are
True. I present some basic approaches to identify truth, from philosophy.
Explanations, are not demonstrations of truth. That an assertion is
CONSISTENT with our personal beliefs, does not mean that it is TRUE.
(This is addressed in the Coherentist approach.)

The TOPIC brought up by this thread, is really important.

BUT, embracing conspiracy theories, is a disastrous abuse of
good Epistemology.

Have a good day.

I agree. You are in trouble if a three-by-five screen is your only source of information regarding society, culture, politics, and history. Read some books. Get a pre-2000 history book. Watch some old movies and documentaries written prior to 9/11. You are not getting the complete picture. Do not allow yourself to be brainwashed. They are manipulating you. If you feel like you are having your buttons pushed and being played... you probably are. Protect your mind and your heart. They do not have your best interests in mind. I do not mean be a conspiracy theory nut. Just be aware of what is happening and control your own mind and heart.

What do you think would happen if they actually attempted this?

What Hillary calls a "cult", I would simply characterize as people who have
ditched formal logic, and have no credible Epistemology. This holds, for most
of the younger generations in America.

Picking out Hillary Clinton, biases the rhetoric used, against Christians.

The post also ignores that many MAGA people are anti-intellectual
Protestant Fundamentalists, who DO have a real problem with embracing
the life of the mind. There are serious intellectual tool deficiencies among
many of the "MAGA" crowd. But MAGA supporters, should not be
forced into a single ideological group.

Many of the January 6th rioters, although they claimed to be MAGA
supporters, could not coherently describe WHY they were there rioting.
Many of Trump's supporters cannot describe, logically, what they believe,
or what precisely Trump's policies are.

I would certainly NOT quote Hillary Clinton, as some sort of authority,
on what "MAGA" supporters believe.

Today's winner. I think you're precisely right.
