Highly recommended reading

One of the books I read this weekend is called Inspiration by Dr. Alden Thompson. In reading I was repeatedly struck with the fact that if more people had read this back when it came out in 1991 they would have found the answers for a lot of the questions that are still being asked today!

For instance, we can probably find some SDA's today who believe in verbal inspiration. But, the book points out that Ellen White didn't believe or teach it (page 28--material came from 1 SM 15-23, esp. 21-2), nor did the people who actually worked with her (A. G. Daniels and W. W. Prescott, page 268-9).

Or, the alleged vision of the moons of Jupiter (see pages 295-6).

yeah, i have read bits of it for research at school, but I will read the whole book sometime. Inspiration is on my very long holiday reading list.

At the most it will only take two days. I can't sit still for very long and it only took me about one day--didn't read all his examples on pages 214-236 because I had seen them before.

What would you recommend as a good book to begin to understand what the SDA and Ms White are all about?

Wooba recommended a book to me called Unshakable Foundations by Norman Geisler.

I ordered it for my trip to Colorado and it didn't get here in time, so now that I'm out of school for the summer (YaY) I think I'll start reading it.

After I learn Spanish and finish painting the bathroom.

Longhair75, a really good book I read right after I joined the church was called "The Antichrist Agenda". It was fabulous. They have an excerpt of it out now (for free at your local SDA churches) called "The Ten Commandments Twice Removed."

It's by Danny Shelton and Shelley Quinn. Excellent book.

reading it will be fine, but getting through the many other books i also want to read, as well as finishing my hebrew before i start classes again will be difficult.

Now come on, you wouldn't take away one of the greatest joys of the GenX: poking fun at those of the older generation!

Was there ever really a time before we labeled each other? Maybe the generation label is a 20th century thing.

The new generation is GenY. Did we have a name for the generation before the Babyboomers?

I don't recall every reading anything about a label for the previous generation. After WW2 they were called (by themselves) "the greatest generation."

I think you are right that it is a 20th century thing.
