I decided to keep the Elephant, both on CF but especially in real life because it ruffles the feathers of the most annoyingly proselytizing and pushy liberal people. Having grown up in the San Francisco bay area since I was a small kid, I grew to think opposite of what they think in every respect, religiously, politically, relationally... they pushed me to the opposite of the ideology that they tried to indoctrinate me with.

Would you say that the current Republican party does a good job of representing your views?

I'm curious why people hide pictures though. I mean - are you afraid of people connecting your thoughts with your face? How do you deal in offline life since you cannot hide without masks or paper bags?

Only a select few people here have earned the "pleasure" of seeing my face.

No I do not hide anything, and really see no need too. If someone wants to use my young age or Atheist icon to prejudge me then fine, more fun for me. The funny thing is I probably fit the Atheist stereotype much better than a lot of atheists lol.

Growing up in a very conservative area I have always wondered what it would have been like to grow up in a liberal area like the bay area.

When I say that I am very frustrated with US politics, I mean that I think all Republicans and Democrats (well, those currently in office anyway) seem to be made of fail. And 3rd parties don't stand a chance, especially when they don't even exist in much of the country (including locally for me) and none of them quite fit me anyway. I'd use the Indy icon, but I want to show my total disgust by not associating with any political icon.

It can be especially frustrating when the future candidates, as chosen for us by the elites, don't seem any better.

Then what is? ;)

I don't know, though I think a good start would be changing things (including some stupid state laws) that make it impossible for 3rd parties to be successful. Then maybe we'd get some decent 3rd parties and have real competition.

Or maybe a parlimentary system would be more useful?

I guess that I don't understand how making it easier for 3rd parties being successful would make our overall plutocracy any different.

I don't know, maybe.

What you got against Smoochy?

Not sure I'm hiding anything anymore, had my faith icon hidden for a bit and by the time I wanted to show it again the options weren't working. I don't have a political party because I really don't care for sides. For me it's issues that matter, sure I may side with one or another but I don't know if I could claim to be a part of one. Usually my reasons don't really line up with theirs per topic.

I know this isn't a debating thread but in my opinion, if we keep getting more and more parties in, it will show just how a republic can be...nothing but a shouting match between representatives while outside sources control how our country is instead of the people that people supposedly vote to represent. We already have a hung Congress and we even have the 'Independents' in our Houses. Then again, direct representation just means that the mob rules.

I don't have an answer but onward left I go.
