  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for the further explanation, FreedByte. It's helped me understand your position a bit better.

You say there will be eternal life for those who love the Lord. My question to you would be how do we know who loves the Lord?

Also, I notice you say the greatest assurance we have of salvation is by practicing the Orthodox faith. Is that belief based on the Bible? What does practicing the Orthodox faith entail? Thanks in advance.

Hi Wayne,

For this discussion, I mean whatever definition of salvation FreedByte had in mind when he said "yes" to my question above. (My question was whether we need to do anything to obtain salvation.)

Well I have started looking into the Eastern Orthodox view of salvation: Soteriology - OrthodoxWiki

Being that this is an Anabaptist (and Quaker) forum I wonder if an Anabaptist view of soteriology might be more appropriate here, and relevant to this discussion.

In your own words Freebyte, what did you mean by "salvation"?
