I've avoided posting in this area because a lot of people misunderstand bipolar. I fear being judged. Its really hard dealing with it alone. i'm just not sure what to say

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Welcome Patrina. You are right, people do misunderstand what BP is as well as the people who have it. But this is one place we can help educate them on it. Most of the people who post here have BP or some other mental illness. It is a great place to find support. I hope you will relax and enjoy your time here. As there are a lot of good people and advice here in these threads!!! God Bless You!!!!

Welcome to the forum.
People do tend to get really judgmental about bipolar when they don't understand it. Thing is, here, we know what this illness is about.
Those who don't understand sometimes come here to learn more about it. We help each other through the tough times and we stand together in support.
I personally, have found a lot of inspiration and encouragement by everyone here.
I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I have.

I ws diegnosed about 4years ago. Most people I know think its just something I can get over. Its like they think depression can be magicaly turned off just like that.
I tried for years to deal with it alone. I would hide my sadness and just muddle throu life. I really thought if I could be a better mom, wife, housekeeper, daughter, friend, ( or whatever) I would be better.
It wsn't until I locked myself in a room for 6 months that my husband knew something was wrong. I came out long enough to feed the kids, then was back to my room. Alone!
Eventualy I came out and tried to find joy again. I ran from my husband several times, going hundreds of miles away, trying to leave. But he always brought me back. I wasn't very strong at that point, and thought it I was a bad person.
My husband and I had had problems for years. Damestic Violence was a way of life for me. He eventualy got help for his problem, but I kept hurting, and hiding inside.
We left Alaska for a year, and I became self destructive. I found help in the states and was diegnosed! Things got better after we came back home, but only for short times.
Last January I came off my meds and have been off them sence. Not wise but I can't aford them any more so here I am. Trying to servive alone again.

I am so glad you came to the bp forum! The people here are very supportive, and are always kind enough to pray for you! Know you are in the right place for support. Last Monday I was in a really bad place, and I didn't even want to post. My Beloevd made me promise to, and so I did! The support and prayers helped me so very much! Now that we know a little more about you, we can be better supportive of you. I have background in the medical field and know of several medicine assistance programs. These can help you get your meds for free for 6 months to a year and ongoing if approp. PM me and I will see what your meds and circumstances are and see if I can help you find this type of program! I would not be able to afford my meds without my disability and Medicare coverage! I was on one of these programs before I was finally approved for SSDI!

Don't ever be afraid to post something. I have Bi-polar. Right along with depression and OCD. I sometimes fear being judged by others. I'm new to CF and I'm trying to get to know everyone and help people. Just remember, do not be afraid to ask questions.
