  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted to say hi to everybody. Sorry if this is the wrong place. This place is so huge, and I didn't see a place specifically for introductions.

I had registered here before, but forgot who I was, and had to do it again. That happens to us old folks, lol.

I am a happily married homeschooling mom of two wonderful daughters. We are currently attending a Sovereign Grace church about an hour from where we live. I like to say that I am reformed on the front end, but not the back end. I adhere completely to the doctrines of grace, but not necessarily to reformed eschatology. Can I "play" with y'all anyway?:)

I have been reading this reformed section for at least a year now, and have learned much. It is a safe place to come when all the rest of the Christian world seems to be crazy.

Hi!

I'm a homeschooling Mom, too. I have two children (16 yr old son, 13 yr old daughter). We have homeschooled up to high school -- our son is now at a Classical school and we anticipate sending our daughter there next year.

Just finished reading _Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother_ by Carolyn Mahaney yesterday. Great book, very convicting!

Welcome to SR!

Hello

I am Jim !!!

I am happily married to Carole (2nd marriage).
I am an accountant and worked in the same place for 25 years.
My wife is a "stay-at-home" mom.
Born: December 1958 in Massachusetts (Near Boston)
Age: 47
Hometown: Near Plymouth, Massachusetts
College: Somewhere in western NY
Year moved to Ohio: 1981
Currently living at: Central Ohio
Wife: Carole
Children: Dennis, Krista, Sarah, Shannon and Shelby.

About our Kids:
Oldest: Sarah (23).... Mentally Challanged/ Celebral Palsy
Next: Shannon (20)....Ohio State University Study studying "Special Education".
Next: Dennis (19)..... Currently in the Navy
Next: Krista (17).......High School Student/ Special Education.
Next: Shelby (16).... Homeschool and full-time Ballet student.

Currently a member Northwest Presbyterian Church which is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). I have studied Christianity for years, attended churches in almost all denominations and learned just about every denomination's doctrines. In the past, I have been a teacher and deacon for a local deaf Church. In the last 25 years, I have been a member of two churches before joining my current Church (Northwest Presbyterian Church which is a member of PCA) and they were:
1. Anabaptist/Mostly Calvinism: Fellowship of Grace Brethren Church of Columbus, Ohio (in the 1980's and in the 2000's)
2. Independent Baptist: Liberty Baptist Church of the Deaf (late 80's to early 90's)
My younger days were mostly Independent Baptist churches which is a mixer of Calvinism and Arminianism as well as Legalism. I attended Catholic school for 7 years in MA. Other denominations I have visited over the years are Grace Brethren (Anabaptist), Missionary & Alliance, Mennonite, Methodist, Pentacostal, Congregational and many others. I also got mixed up with "Word of Faith" for a short time. No matter what denomination I go to, God will direct me if I aware of it or not. I am learning that God will always lead me to His providential circumstances for my own good, in His will and for His glory. God knows me so well that He will do His providential actions at the very moment of my need according to His will. For the longest time, I thought I have planned and executed my life all by myself but really never aware that my life have always been guided by God.

Am I a mixed breed Christian? :D

Typical Interests: Collecting Quotes, Reading the Bible, books and newspapers, debating on CF, spending time with family, relaxing, watching television and going to church. Other Interests (when able): Walking, playing golf, swimming, cycling, bowling. One of my favorite shows is “America Funniest Videos”.

One of my best childhood memories:
Working in my grandfather’s cranberry bog harvesting cranberries.

Welcome aboard newbie !!!! See you around the Board.

Thank you all for the nice welcome! Some really sweet lady named McWilliams sent me a pm, but it said I cannot answer until I have 5 posts.

Anyway, it is great to see fellow homeschoolers here!

Jim, you have been around, haven't you?! I was a member of a quite "liberal" Independent Fundy Baptist church for 10 years myself. Then went from there to a Pentecostal Holiness church for 3 years. Then to a Foursquare church for about a year, and now I am at a Sovereign Grace church. :) Still don't have anything on you though!

I was reading Sovereign Grace Ministries' website. It appears that their doctrine as being essentially Reformed and at the same time a commitment to charismatic practice as biblically defined. Sounds like an interesting Church and sounds very "spirit-filled".

This reminds me of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones who was one of my favorite Theologians, Dr. Lloyd-Jones was brought up in Welsh Calvinistic Methodism. He was Charismatic himself if you read his books.

Another favorite of mine was A.W. Tozer who was also involved in a Charismatic church called "Christian and Missionary Alliance Missionary". Some says he was a cavinist but other say he was not. We don't know. Most of his writing tied to Reformed theology.

Welcome Kim -

Which SG church do you attend?

We were attending Covenant Fellowship (near Philli) but have stopped going because of the distance and size of the church in particular. Love SG Ministries - but just could not get connected with the folks there - too far - too big.

Normally we'd stick with them but our situation is unique - we are only going to be here for three years and we have just found it is easier to get connected quicker in a smaller church closer to home. I wish we had a SG that fit the mold for us - but obviously God has other things in mind. His will be done...

Hi.
We attend a small Sovereign Grace church in Roanoke Virginia. There are between 150 to 200 people there, and I think over half of them are kids. Most everyone there are homeschoolers, even the pastor, which is nice. Also, most of them have big families. Which I would have liked too, had I not gotten such a late start.:)

We actually attended a Pentecostal church before this, and saw so much...umm...."interesting" stuff, that it kind of made us quite skeptical of the whole charasmatic thing. Thankfully, though this church believes in the continuation of the gifts, they do not do any weird stuff at all. I really like them. I've never seen such a truly humble bunch of people (especially the pastors) in a church anywhere I have been.

Been there - done that...

SG does the gifts right - by the book. Have never seen any other pentacostal or charismatic group employ the gifts the way they are laid out in scripture. What I particularly like about SG is that the gifts are not their "selling point." The gospel and doctrine is - which is the way it should be.

How far are you from Rocky Mount, Va.? I know of a solid church there if you are interested. I know it isn't too far from Roanoke. I also have a brother-in-law who pastors 2 small churches in the Lynchburg area. PM me if you want the details.

Rocky Mount is about 2 hours from us. Roanoke is between us and RM. Lynchburgh is also 2 hours away. We live basically right on the WVA border. Thanks though.

I think you're in just the right spot and agree that this is the safe place to escape from the insanity that is out there.

Anyhow - welcome, glad you have you.
