• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone. Well, a little about myself, i was diagnosed with depression about 2 years ago ((age 16 then)), and have been on lexapro since...I just stopped taking it about 2 months ago, became severly depressed and was diagnosed with Bi-polar..everything i did seemed to be a symptom of bi-polar, and it was that way for about a month..For some reason though, the last month has been different...im not feeling the same as i was during the month before. It seems like i go through normal teenage things every day (some more extreme than others, such as social anxiety), but i dont feel like i did the month before. I don't know if i have just gotten use to it or what. I don't neccesarily feel worst then i did or better, but i just feel different. I have an appointment here in 2 months, and i dont know if you guys went through the same thing after being left diagnosed with bipolar untreated for a couple months...if you did or have any information about this, please respond. Thanks

Brad

Hi Brad and welcome. I was diagnosed bi=polar in March last year as I had a manic episode. I went off my meds at christamas thinking I was ok but recently had another manic episode....I really urge you to get back on the meds, depression is really hard to fight without meds. You're hearing this from a person who's been depressed most of her adult life....I know you will find alot of support here in the CF forums.

I went a very long time without being diagnosed. They kept giving med every kind of mood stabilizer there is. Then when They finnally said "OH, it says here that you are bipolar, didn't anyone ever tell you?" Then she was mad at that and started me on bipolar meds along with depression meds. When I was your age I used to think, How come I feel so " high " on life. Other friends had to do other things but, I didn't have to. All my friends understood because I was fun to be with. but, now as I became an adult, I realized thyat even back then I was bipolar.
Just as Merri said, please do not go off your meds!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!
It will make you worse. Then it's harder to get back where you felt good enough to stop them!!
Well, GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!
I will pray for you!

Hi Brad
Yes I went without medication for most part of my life - not all that pleasant really. Then they put me on meds but after a year of depression I had enough of it so I dumped them like you did. At first I didn't notice much but after a few weeks my mood lifted considerably and I thought GREAT I DON'T NEED MEDICATION -- 6 months later I suffered a really bad psychosis which landed me in hospital once again. That is the trouble with our illness. When we go off our meds we feel 'great' and in control again but how long is it going to last before we are right of track again?

Please take care and God bless.
