• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

What is wrong with me???? When will I learn I CAN NOT just have one drink??? Went to a small AA meeting today and ended up rushing out when it was done and going to pick a 4 pack up Of course I could come up with a multitude of excuses, but that's all they are excuses

I was on day 5, DAY 5, I am so disgusted with myself. I did not call my sponsor...didn't call anyone and also you are the first (other than a pm) I've been honest with. That will change as tomorrow there is another AA meeting. Coming clean is hard for me, calling someone for help is hard for me.

I appreciate your being honest here but so much more important than I is you gotta be honest as well with yourself, your sponsor, AND your Higher Power (God).

I cant give spiritual advise as I am not a christian but theres a christian based AA program called Celebrate Recovery - I been to them before and enjoyed the meetings.

does your church or another in your city have a 12 step/recovery ministry? you might check around.

LESSON LEARNED ! Picking myself up and moving on.

Will start being honest with myself, sponsor and my "Higher Power". This is something I must learn, especially being honest with myself.

The three meetings I have attended all have "spiritual" emphasis. All three of these meetings are held in a church.

Great news! I am so happy for you and thank you for the update. AA does have a lot of great members and every meeting is a good one to attend (as opposed to not at all) but when you find that one meeting/group that you fit right in with, that only makes it better.

Remember, one day at a time. sometimes its one step at a time. it takes what it takes to make it work.

Am so happy for you on Day 9! Sorry that your tired and having a bit of a time.

Everyone's experience with sobriety is different as the effects of changes hit each person BUT some things are basicly similair. I remember during my first several weeks of sobriety back in Sep '04, my sleep patterns were off, my mind was changing gears, I couldnt concentrate, had migrains, etc etc. Seemed lke everything that would get me to return to drinking was hitting me all at once but I just had to keep going with my sobriety no matter what.

You are going thru a change, chemically, mentally, emotionally, psycologically, etc and some days you just aint gonna feel like your even human. I know I felt like that.

All I can recommend from my standpoint is to drive on no matter what. hang in there, go to meetings and call your sponsor when and as needed and just because. On anothernote, since you are a chriatianm then I suggest prayer as well. Get Him to help out as well.

Will have you in my thoughts.

WoW!!! It is tough but a VERY intresting Journey!

Last night was my 1st nonalcoholic BQ ever!!! That was quite an experience (great I mean) I remember the people I met, the visiting I did, the things I did & didn't do and I actually ate! (the food was FABULOUS) ...as one lady put it "I wasn't on the ground...but a chair all evening

that is so cool! And I am happy for you that your now on day 12. Like I said once in another post, next thing yoiuknow you will have a month, then 6 then a year then......

but it is good that you can go and enjoy activities such as a bar b que and be sober. some folks think going bowling or bar b que or a dinner party for someone in recovery isnt a big deal. well it is if you was always drunk at them in the past. and now to be able to go and enjoy these things and be sober while doing it is great.

Thanks for sharing your opionion.
I'm not sure if you read this 1st post by Norm. As you can see it explains why this thread was started. It is done as an out reach for anyone who is dealing with this disease.
As you stated, you were involved in AA for 5 years. You then found the real help you were seeking for.

My Sister was part of AA for less than 3 months...got a sponsor, who became "just" a friend, and got on with her life with Jesus.

Although what you share is true, I would be careful not to "offend" those who do not know the Savior and are still searching as you were. We are to be the light in a dark world. I think by this, Jesus wanted us to reach out to those in need of Him.
(a side note...through out this thread, Norm has encouraged those who know the Lord to "lean on Him")

Many in AA know the One True God! I am involved in AA to learn a new way of living (free from alcohol)and to reach out to those who need the love of Jesus.

Just to let you know, my priorities are, in this order,
God
Family
Friends, encluding the new ones I have made in AA.

It is easier to reach others for the Lord by living the abundent life (not by talk but the way we walk)

thought to post here today and say howdies to all.

My only intent here is provide an open thread of support and friendship to share thoughts, feelings, experiences, meetings or web sites - anything that supports the alcoholic - no matter your beliefs or lack thereof, politics, nationality, height/weight, whether you listen to rap or C&W (preferably PinkFloyd...) or drive a chevy as opposed to a ford.

You will get a hug/handshake/welcome/smilie thingie here in a post fro me!

I worded the OP as I did since because it is a familair thing many of us have heard before and someone coming to this thread would recognise it, come on in and see friendly "faces".

its been hot out here in CA -11th day over 100 degrees. I dont do as well anymore like I use to in the heat. So you folks in cooler climes, give out here a thought now and again!

and take a moment in silence for the alcoholic that still suffers.

Up here in Canada...we go by the metric system...so I'm not sure what 100 degrees is Sounds HOT! Since we have most of our year WAY below zero...we're just gratful when the temp is anything above lol

Oh...by the way, I have been sober... 2 weeks and 2 days!!!!! So one day at a time... I will start counting in "months" Yesterday I "picked" my home AA group and became a member ! Now I can start giving back to those that have been SO supportive and accepting!!

You are most welcome. 100 degrees fahrenheit - it would translate to 37 or so celecius I think. ALthough I can find a way to deal with it, I am a cold weather boy myself.

howdies all. was just sittin here thinking of things I need to do and things I need to get still.

In a couple weeks my teenage boys (14 and almost 16) will be here for a week to visit (12 - 19 Aug). What makes this different is that for them, this is the 2nd time in their life they will be with me and I will be sober!

When they visited me last year, it was the first time they ever saw me without a alcoholc beverage or a ciggaret.

Trying to rebuild a couple mountain bikes from my bike bone yard to we can bike ride around town, just trhinkin of things we can do. They are pumped about having a dad that can remember the next day what he did and said the night before...

I am tickled pink and other cute colors that they are coming!

To my fellow recovering alcoholics, What does one do with under a month of sobriety when "real life hits"???When one thing after another goes wrong in a day. You know the saying, "when it rains it pours"...yesterday was one of those "pouring" days! If it could go wrong, it did! It all ended when I was on my way to a commitment involving little kids who were depending on me...I was chewing a piece of gum when a felt a hard piece of something that I knew was NOT the gum! It was my tooth cap! Forget the fact that I looked like a hillbilly with my missing front tooth, the look and feeling made me sick to my stomach. I had to cancel my commitment...find a dentist that was open on our long weekend and find out that, yes, they could cement a "plastic" tooth in for now, but I would have to see a dentist specialist to see where we go from here. (since the crown (or whatever it's called) broke off in a "bad" way. I had two choices...#1 go to a liqour board store and numb my day...or...#2 attend an AA meeting that would be ending in 10 minutes, but they always get together for coffee after the meeting. I chose the meeting. It wasn't easy...but I would rather go to where I would be accepted and encouraged, rather than drinking and have to deal with guilt and all the ugley things that come with that. I'm not "patting" myself on the back...I just want others to know, "I've been there, done that" and want a better life...alcohol FREE!!!
