Mount saint Joseph abbey in roscrea Ireland is the most beautiful monastery that I have been in my whole life and I have finally decided to join. They are recently looking for new novices or people to join as the place is huge and the numbers are small. It is a very relaxed monastery as they do speak now and the food is incredible and the work isn't so much now.

If you are thinking about vocations, maybe the monastic life is the one for you.

You are welcome to come for a visit or simple retreat to see the place or simple see if it is something that would suit you.

God bless

Is your monastery of a particuliar order?

Precisely at your age I contemplated the monastic life as I too had begun to sojourn the world in search of understanding the faith I found in me but not around me. I read a lot of Thomas Merton in that period. The early eighties.

While living with a Roman Catholic priest in a small Italian villiage I met and married a local girl and she came away with me on my spiritual journey. We soon added three canine kids to the family, born in our bathroom on the island of Rhodes in Greece.

In Jan 06 my wife finally told me she didn't want to serve God the way I did, she was tired of "living like a monk." Far from such did we do, but she had come to America and was eventually converted from our simple life free from the cosmos of a material society, to a life of clothes and convertibles and a career. And she literally told me and the remaining Sad Eyes and Bear to disappear from her life.

So at 51 I have a second chance at the life I once knew, very much based on the monastic principle of quiet withdrawal from the world system, yet living amongst it, but not like it, interacting with the quiet of nature rather than the busyness of society, conversations with God more than conversations with man, yet always taking to him along the way the fruits of this intimacy with the Creator.

So, tell me about your decision to commit to a monastery. If not for caring 24/7 for my Sad Eyes and Bear as they journey the last of this life with me, I might very well be joining you.

Have you read The Imitation of Christ by Kempis? That's the life I love, the life in which I found so much of Christ's presence.

Best to you, Mr. Monk.

Thanks for everyone's welcome and bible verses, I always do love to read a good and inspiring word. The order I joined is the same one as Thomas Merton. I plan to read the imitation of Christ. I am sorry to hear about your wife Mr. Monk, I pray that God bless you on your journey and if you ever do decide to join a monastery you can always try here. The place is much bigger than the shoes that fill it.

at 26 i have decided to join the monastery after eight years of travel and searching God's purpose in my life. I fanaticaly studied everything I could get my hands on and wanted to be a missionary. I do share the gospel wherever I am though. I had spent some time in a monastery in Israel on a retreat and it was the closest I have ever felt to God, you might say I want to continualy live that feeling. One works hardest at what he is happiest doing, and everyone should be in the place where they can be closest God, Hence the first commandment. well thats me in a nutshell.

I feel blessed to have found this website and share with other fellow brothers and sisters,

God bless
