  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So why do Christians need the new testament? The old law stands. You can break laws but you'll be least in heaven with the help of your lawyer/Jesus but if we follow the law we'll be greatest in heaven. What purpose does Jesus serve? If we stick to the old testament we'll be fine.

Because the law is done away with, and the faith in Jesus stands. Times have changed since then. The world has changed. In the earlier Holy days people would sacrifice animals to cover their sins, which is looked differently upon nowadays.

The animal sacrifices were the covering of sins. The animals blood covered the transgressors of the law. Now Jesus's blood covers it. God made it more simple.

The law is fulfilled by Jesus. But Jesus still wants us to follow the law, and Jesus understands we will break it. That is why He came.

Can you not see how frustrating that is? The law is done away with but we have to follow it. Which one is it?

We should want to follow it, out of love. God knows our hearts. God knows if we're trying. There's scripture that says even out of the righteous even few will be saved. Do you really want to take that chance? Or would you rather serve in love and honesty?

1 Peter 4: 18

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Well no I wouldn't want to take that chance, so sticking to the old testament is key. I was enjoying annoying the atheists with Christ. I even gave up booze after an epiphany. Them pesky atheists have destroyed that and will pay if I figure this out.

Stick to both, you cannot enter heaven without Jesus. The law is of the Father, you need both. You need Jesus, and effort to obey the law. Not perfection, but real effort. Because that is what love is, if you love Jesus, you love Jehovah and what He also stood for.

The law of Christ my friend.

1 John 3:23-24
This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

1 John 2 KJV

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

1 John 1 6-7

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

God bless.

That's great guys but it doesn't explain one of the most important aspects of Christianity. In the book of Matthew Jesus said the law is still valid, yet in Galatians it's not. It can't be both and it doesn't seem like it can be explained in layman's terms, as I'm pretty sure it can't be answered.

Welcome to CF, Darren.

Here this passage is in the Message version:

“Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama. God’s Law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet. Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working. “Trivialize even the smallest item in God’s Law and you will only have trivialized yourself. But take it seriously, show the way for others, and you will find honor in the kingdom. Unless you do far better than the Pharisees in the matters of right living, you won’t know the first thing about entering the kingdom.
Matthew 5:17‭-‬20 MSG

Layman's terms is the Bible is all about Jesus. Jesus came to complete the law. Jesus is the entire reason the Bible was written, to show the world that we are sinners in need of grace. This shows the law is important, but because of Jesus, what we do now for Him concerning the law is out of love rather then fear of Hell. Hope that helps. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (romans 3:23), even the Pharisees who lived for the law. They couldn't do it.

In Matthew 5:17-20, the Lord fulfills the law and the prophets and calls us to do this by keeping His commandments ( John 14:15-18). The Lord says on His commandments hang all the law and prophets ( Matthew 22:36-40) in that we are to love God. By professing to love God ( Deuteronomy 6:4-6), we are to love our neighbor as well ( Leviticus 19:18). We are to do this by these commandments in that we must treat others as we would want to be treated which the Lord says is the law and prophets which we know as the golden rule ( see Matthew 7:12 & then read Matthew 7:1-12).

St. Paul sums this up in Romans 13:8-10 in which he is basically repeating what the Lord told the rich young man ( Matthew 19:16-19).

While we must keep the Lord’s commandments, as best we can, we must call on Him for our salvation ( Romans 10:9-13). We are saved by grace, not of works, but by grace we are to live out our faith in good works ( Ephesians 2:8-10).
