  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Room for a litte'n in here?

I have been thinking (and praying) about this forum and after going through your SoF, realised that it about lines up with what I have always held as my core beliefs.

To explain: I have spent all my life (soon to be 50 years!) a nurse working in the operating theatre (US version OR!!) and sometime in the late 60s, abortion became legal in the UK but it was not until the late 70s it permeated into the Op Theatre. All staff were given the option of being able to refuse to be involved with the actual procedure if they were Catholics and it was amazing how, overnight, I suddenly found I had a department staffed entirely by RCs!!

However, as I was the manager, I wasn't afforded that luxury and consequently had to help out at every termination that came through my department. I wasn't actually a Christian at the time and thought, ah well, so what. It's got to be done.

But let me tell you, after just a few weeks of potting up the unrecognisable remains of those poor little angels, I soon lost my ability to be impartial. I hated it. I found myself saying prayers over the indelicately termed "products of conception" (what a neat way to dismiss the barbarism) and even to weep over them. I lost my ingénue status then although it would be another 5 years before I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour.

So, if, after last night debacle, I am still welcome here, I would very much like to share time in here with you all. If not, no harm done. I will quite understand and be on my way.

BTW - I already left my name in the sign-in thread up top.

Bill!! So this is where you've been hiding! I missed you in SF.
Actually was doing battle over in general WIKI for awhile and this forum is just so peaceful and my beliefs really line up for the most part with people here.

Are you kidding? Of course your welcome here!

I look forward to getting to know you better Jo. I could never be a nurse...faint at the sight of blood. Even my own! ^_^ I remember when I was a lil girl my mom cut her thumb pretty bad...she must have hit a vein because blood was splurting all about. :swoon: And I got very light headed...she had to stop nursing herself to help me put my head between my legs. :sorry:

It really warms my heart to see you come to the realization that it ain't just some clump of cells we're throwing away but a potential little baby with eyes, nose, crying mouth, heartbeat, etc.:wave::wave::wave:

Gosh I can't believe the indifferent attitude some folks have about unborn babies being "not humans, just cells." I have sympathy though for a lot of women out there who end up being raped or molested thru incest and end up getting pregnant, but I truly don't know if that has anything to do with how I feel about abortion itself as a procedure.

I don't wanna offend anybody with what I said! But granted that it's a conservative board for the most part, I probably am safe lol

I'd be happy to welcome you Flaglady!!!

I'm so sorry you had to witness that. Thank you for sharing that with us though. I've actually heard more and more people speak up that witnessed and/or were involved in abortions coming out against it nowadays. It is a good thing to speak out against it, and you should be proud of yourself for having the courage to do so!!!

I cannot imagine how hard that must have been for you, and maybe still is when you remember it... I will pray for you about that -- that the Lord will help to ease the burden that must be on your soul and on your mind even now at times...

Again, I'm happy to welcome you to the CC!!! I hope to get to know you better than as just a mod! :)

I don't want to bring this thread off-topic but, I really want to share this...
You know... that's the hardest part of it -- tempering my compassion for women who are victims of rape and incest (as I am a survivor of abuse and sexual assault) with my firm belief that all life is precious and abortion is indeed murder.

However, the more I think on it, the more I see that if God didn't want there to be a child produced it wouldn't have been conceived, and even though the circumstances are less than desireable I still believe it to be wrong to abort...

(Just FYI: The reason I say about God and his wish that the child is conceived -- I have 3 children whom I conceived while on birth control (and the 2nd and 3rd out of that group I was very careful tyring NOT to get pregnant at those times as we were broke, and still are! LOL) So, as a result of my experiences, I firmly believe that GOD is ultimately in control of conception! Even when we TRY to control it ourselves -- even with the pill!!!! LOL)

Good points there, TL. Not off topic at all.

And, of course, this doesn't even begin to address the many instances of miscarriage where nature - or God, what you will - has declared for a whole variety of reasons that the pregnancy should not continue. I always found those cases heartbreaking as well.

And whether miscarried or terminated, I can tell you - the women almost always woke in floods of tears because, so many of them said, they felt empty. I would often take them in my arms and hold them while they cried. Can't help it. I might be single and childless but my nature is motherly and I hurt to see them hurt.

On one occasion, a woman in her late thirties came in for a D&C after a mis. She woke in tears and the anaesthetist wanted to give her a sedative. When I asked him what for, he said because she's distraught. No, I told him firmly, that's not a medical malady, it's natural so you can put away your drugs, get out of here and let me do my job! So I did and afterwards, while she were talking things through with my colleague and me, she told us she had had a still birth several years before. That birthday had been only recently and now she had another loss.

But the real pain for her was that she had no idea there the first baby was buried. So my colleague and I spent some time digging around (no nice internet to help us then) and actually managed to locate the spot. We took her there a few days later and stood by while she placed some flowers and said goodnight to her little one. And when we left, she actually had a little smile on her face!

Let me tell you, those are the perks of nursing if you're prepared to reach out and take them!
