  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone. I am not sure how many people are aware of the HHS Contraceptive Mandate and what it is but I feel it violates our freedom of religion here in the United States. The HHS Contraceptive mandate means that most businesses, including religious ones, have to provide health insurance coverage for contraception, abortifacients, and sterilization. The mandate applies to most businesses with 50 or more employees.

As most people know, the Catholic Church does not believe in contraception, abortifacients, or sterilization. We feel that it is wrong to use such things to prevent a pregnancy. The Catholic Church is opposed to the HHS Contraceptive Mandate because it violates our freedom of religion. Many Catholic businesses will be forced to provide such health insurance coverage or else face steep fines.

So, do you think that Catholic business owners should be forced to violate their conscience by providing health insurance coverage for contraception, abortifacients, and sterilization?

Should they be? No. Will they be, Yes.

Consider a person comes up to you with a knife and takes your wallet. He then goes and spends the money he stole on a gun that he gives to someone else who uses it to shoot someone. You are not responsible for the death. The person that stole the money and killed the other person are the ones responsible.

The Roman army collected a lot of taxes at the point of a sword at the time of Jesus. Many of these taxes were used for abominable purposes.

This is why the Bible says that if you are a friend of the world, you are an enemy of God.
