Thread split!!!!

Yay! I feel so speshul!!

◘ What comes to mind when you think of peace and tranquility?

Green trees and gently running water.

○ If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Go back and tell Eve to throw the fruit back in the serpent's face as hard as she can.

◘ How easily do you cry? Have you ever felt like crying for no apparent reason?

I cry less than some people and more than others. Things, especially words, affect me emotionally -- so there's usually a reason.

○ Have you ever doubted your capabilities? If so, what did you do to overcome your doubt?

I've totally doubted my capabilities. I overcame it by realizing that it didn't matter that I was completely incompetent, it's GOD's competence which determines the outcome. That makes me feel a lot better. :)

◘ Do you ever find it difficult to truly love your neighbor as yourself? Is it really impossible to love others when you do not love yourself?

Oh yes, it can be difficult -- we humans are fallen beings, after all, and I am no exception. I try to follow it as well as I can, though.

I think if you don't love (respect, care for, value) yourself, you don't have as much to offer someone, and your "love" won't be as rich, full, or complete.

Has anyone told you lately that you're a patient person?

Nope.

◘ How many books have you read?

I couldn't possibly count.

○ What is the last book that you read?

The Bible. :)
But I'm also plugging my way through a couple of theology textbooks.

◘ What is your favorite book?

Can I go with the Bible?
There are so many to choose from.
Of the top of my head, I like "Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey, "To Say Nothing of the Dog" by Connie Willis, "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K. Jerome, Augustine's "Confessions," "The Seven Dials" by Agatha Christie, "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe, "The Winter's Tale" by William Shakespeare, "Saguna" by Krupabai Sattianadan, "On Perfection" by Gregory of Nyssa, "Perelandra" and "The Great Divorce" by C.S. Lewis...
Yeah, I'd better just go with the Bible.

○ Who is your favorite character in a book?

Bertie Wooster in P.G. Wodehouse novels. The first-person narrative in his voice is pure genius.

◘ What was the first book you can remember reading?

Oh, lots of little kid's books, but I don't remember which was first. My first "chapter book" was something about a horse. My first favorite book was "The Secret of Nimh" which I read over and over again when I was seven. I wore it out because I would finish it and then start right back at the first page.

○ What is the most times you have ever read a single book? What book was it?

See above. And I really can't remember, but I had the thing just about memorized, so it must be a lot.

◘ Who is your favorite author?

Oh, I can't decide. Those ones I listed above with books I like.

○ How many of his/her books have you read?

When I find an author I like, I read as much as I can from that author.

◘ What is your favorite book by that author?

See long list above.

○ What do you use to keep your place in a book?

Whatever's handy -- often a receipt or advertising postcard or a bookmark from a used-book store, or even a scrap of yarn. Sometimes a pen or pencil, but that only temporarily. Sometimes the dustjacket, but that only works with some books.

◘ Do you prefer hard cover or paperback?

paperback

○ What is your favorite bookstore?

Powell's Books on West Burnside in Portland, Oregon. There is no better bookstore on the planet. Guaranteed.

◘ Do you believe it is important for children to be interested in reading? Why or why not?

Of course it's important. It encourages the growth of the mind.

What percentage of income do you think a person should tithe? Do you think it should all go to their member church?

Well, with "tithe" meaning "tenth," I think that's a good place to start, but I wouldn't limit it, of course. I think that the bulk of it should go to the member church, but there are so many other worthy causes that further the Kingdom that I think people should be encouraged to give to those, also.

Do you watch TV much? What shows?

I don't think I've watched TV in a few months.

I do like Numb3rs, and I liked Bones in the first season (haven't been following it since because it conflicts with Bible study). I like Law & Order.

Have you seen the canceled TV series Firefly?

I've seen the pilot episode and hope to see more.

You had better check out Firefly, like, immediately... :X See the movie Serenity while you're at it... :)

I plan to see more. Willtor has them on DVD.

Recommended study bible?

Oh, that really depends on the individual who will be using it. For general purposes, I think the NIV Study Bible is good and probably the one I would recommend to the average churchgoer. But the Life Application Study Bible can be thought-provoking in the application notes it provides, and for more academic study I like the Oxford Annotated Bible (3rd edition).

Ever wish you lived in the south?

I do live in the south.

Chess or checkers? Come on, be honest... ;o)

Well, other than learning how the pieces move, I never really learned chess. I guess checkers is all right, but neither one would be my first-choice game.

Firefly is one of the top TV shows of all time, imo. Everyone in my family really enjoys the show -- I cannot say that about any other tv show/movie.

Ummmm, ever wish you lived in the north? :X For some reason I was under the impression you were in CT...or maybe Vermont... haha

What would you like to be famous for?

What should a visitor of your church expect?

I really liked the first episode. It's a shame it was canceled. And when it was on, I could never find it or was always busy when it was on, so I never watched it.

I'm not originally from the south, but I've never lived in (or been to) CT or Vermont.

I do sometimes wish I lived elsewhere.

What would you like to be famous for?

Don't really know that I'd like to be famous. It seems rather over-rated for me.

I suppose if I had to pick something, I think it would be cool to be a chaplain for a space station or moon colony or something. Ooh, or maybe a missionary to Martians. Yeah, maybe I can help Marvin the Martian get over his anger problem and earn my place in Christian history.

(sorry, tired, stressed, illogical)

What should a visitor of your church expect?

Lots of attention. We're a small church and we love visitors.
