Hi Neal,

I'm fully aware of those arguments.  I've seen Thadman post quite often on CARM and so it's nothing new.  Thanks for sharing it though =)

What I find interesting however, is that Scott Hahn would've held on to the exact same eschatological view which I hold, had it not been for the creeds.  Actually, I got my hands on Hahn's Ignatius Catholic Study bibles, on Matthew, Mark and Luke.  (By the way I JUST got my hands on Acts of the Apostles!  It's great! I love how Acts 2:42 is speaks of devotion towards 'breaking bread!')

Anyway, I found some interesting explanations for Matt 24 and such.  On another website, his position is further explained on this page

Question: In Matthew 24 it talks about Jesus' Parousia and then Jesus says that "this generation will not pass away," until he comes back. Preterists say that his second coming has already taken place on the clouds of judgment in the fall of Jerusalem. Can you explain this?  

Answer: Actually, it says "this generation will not pass away till all these things take place" (Matthew 24:34) which is not exactly the same thing. Preterists say that a coming took place in the judgement against Jerusalem. Catholic preterists (such as Scott Hahn) would also argue that Jesus "comes" at each consecration of the Eucharist, at our own death (when the temple of our body is destroyed like the Temple at Jerusalem) and in various other ways. The point here is that that the judgement against the Temple in 70 AD is a fulfillment of the promised coming of Christ, but that this short-term and temporal fulfillment is meant to image the Final and Ultimate Coming of Christ at the end of time. The fall of the Temple and the establishment of the Church image the final fall of this world and the final triumph of the Kingdom of God at the Last Day. In 70 AD, a world passed away and a new one was born. At the Second Coming, the world will pass away and the New World will be born.  

I honestly see some problems with that explanation, but if I were to become Catholic, I'd probably hold onto this teaching.

I thought you would be interested, little did I know you had already seen it. Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out, because I have no opinion whatsoever on the topic, other than what the Creed has to say. I just like to sit back and read them all.
