Henna

Hey,

Does anyone work with henna here, or has anyone ever had a henna tattoe done?

For those who don't know what it is, henna is a sort of muddy die that you decorate your skin with (mostly hands and feet). It's an ancient middle-eastern custom.
I am teaching myself how to do henna art on my hands... I'm getting pretty good at it. It only takes ages, which is annoying, but once your finished it is great to see the results.
I also have trouble finding good henna paste... most stuff is either too runny or too thick. I could make it myself, only I don't know where to find henna powder.

So, does anyone here work with henna?

Not personally, some of my best friends are brilliant, one is now well known within her community as a Henna artist and has done tattoos for some well known people, she's also a teacher, between the two she has a good income, quite handy for a student! Obviously she can't mix Henna at school, but she frequently draws traditional style tattoos on my hands in lectures maybe I shouldn't admit that!!

I have done a couple henna tattoos. I made the paste myself at home with stuff in the kitchen and powdered henna bought off the internet. There are hundreds of different recipes. The fresh stuff you mix up at home works so much better than the junk in tubes.

I would check the internet for henna suppliers by doing a google search. Luckily, where we live there are a couple stores in town where I can pick up henna.

I love making henna tattooes. I usually just buy whatever henna I can find for cheap, so I get mixed results, unfortunately.

Ugh, my single attempt was a total disaster. After following the directions to the letter, I was left with the vaguest ghostly image of my design. It looked like a rash! I'd love to have it done professionally, but I live in D.C., and they've really cracked down on the parlors that used to do henna (hepatitis A risk if the parlor isn't well-maintained, apparently.)

I do it, i don't prepare my own, but i buy it already made. I love it!

Cool! I didn't expect many people to know what it is.

I can't buy henna on internet, my parents won't allow me to. Luckily I might be able to come by some henna powder, since my friends are from afghanistan and have contacts.

Here are some pictures of some of my first designs. They are a bit hazy cos I made them with a webcam, but you can still see enough.

Thats remarkably good, especially since you are a beginnner!!
