The Bible says to love your neighbour as yourself. Does that mean to split your money in half - half for you, half for your neighbours? Are starving people overseas your neighbours? Should the government give money to starving people overseas?

Isn't it better to help others? That is in fact what Jesus Christ of Nazareth emphasized more than anything else in His Gospel. That includes our money given to the government.

If you help others, especially starving people overseas, it means less money for you and some people are struggling to pay rent.
edit: if you help others by volunteering then that doesn't mean less money for yourself.
If it involves money and involves paying the church, etc, then some ministers say that you're sowing the seed and you will be financially blessed. The gospels talk about it storing up riches for you in Heaven.

This is obviously extra money not money needed to sustain oneself. Let us reason. We give with great joy. There is no joy when you are unhoused and starving yourself.

This is a hard question and I have been thinking about it a lot. I used to own businesses and that was in the thick on managing money. I think money to a degree is a necessary evil and we nave to manage more carefully than the world would as far as our belief in the 2nd greatest commandment.

Its not a case of having any choice. If there are people in the world starving and you have excess money then it should be going to help them. If you don't have excess money but time then we should be working with charities helping the poor. Time is money, these charities don't run on love alone.

So one way or another I think if we were taking Christ serious then we should be seeing a great revolution of Christians and churches saving the poor.

The problem is the State has encroached into our private lives. SEcularism is everywhere and you can't do anything but submit to a system that controls people to follow the rules. So I think as a Church we have to think outside the box. Beat the system. What is radical is actually sacrificing your life for another. No strings attached, no return and not even recognition.

That will get heads turning. What, their working for someone else and not themselves. They are putting others first. No where the catch. Thats madness lol.

We should all help starving people where we can.

We should stop fraud and abuse where we can.

Both principles are correct.
