  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello, everyone! I am currently trying to teach myself some Japanese, but some phrases or words I see confuse me quite a bit sometimes. I was just wondering if there would be anybody out there who would be willing to be a kind of learning partner for me, whom I could ask questions about Japanese grammar/vocabulary/culture or anything whenever I get stuck? I would rather do this than VM/PM random native speakers on these forums, as I know that somebody who has agreed to help me with this will not (hopefully!) get annoyed at me keeping on asking questions :p. If you would like to do this for me, then I would also be more than happy to help you with any English grammar questions that you might need answering, or things you were just curious about concerning the language (and I can also do quite a lot of German, if that helps :D). I don't know if you would need me to help with this, but if you would, then I would be happy to.

ありがとうございました。

私はすべてで日本語がわからない。学ぶことは難しいと思われる。その理由は、私はトランスレータを使用しています。LOL

Seriously though I had have a hard time with asian dialects. My wife is filipino and the way the grammar and wording is for tag is too hard for me to understand. I only mention this because filipinos are mostly japanese in background (up until the spanish came).

Don't hold the second as correct, I've only been doing Japanses in high school for two years. The dashes are characters that I don't know.

I am trying to learn Japanese, too. I am currently learning from the website, yesjapan.com.

Oh, cool, I have their books!

I barely know any kanji, haha ^^; I learn in my spare time, after having done a year's course, so I need to teach myself.

Just thinking, maybe we could make this thread into a Japanese learner thread? So if we get stuck we could post here and see if anybody can help? I don't know if we have enough people, though...

^Yet you still know lots of kanji - that's impressive! :)

So I have a question, first of all - I've heard the word "くさっぱら" (kusappara), and I know くさ means grass, but I can't find a translation for this word. Could anyone help? :)

"くさっぱら" (kusappara), you got the 'p' wrong the 'ten ten' says 'ba' on 'ha' and a 'marus' says 'pa' on 'ha'. Hope that helps translation for you.

I meant to post くさっぱら, sorry :(

But I can't seem to find anything for that, either...

くさっぱら(Kusappara) appears to be a name of a place. The Kanji might be 草っ原, meaning a field of grass with an emphasis on the word field. Possibly meaning that there's so much grass that it is a whole field, is my guess. So I wouldn't worry about that word so much.

Your question about 12 months old, but better late than never I suppose!
