  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone know any remedies for heartburn??? :(

I don't know if this has something to do with the fact that I've had fluey type things going on all week - cold, headache, sore throat, exhausted etc...and I've had mild heartburn all the way through this pregnancy

but...

the last few days has been unbearable and now I don't know what to do...

no matter what I eat or drink, and no matter how many indigestion tablets I take, I'm getting this terrible acidy indigestion and a few hours after each meal I end up throwing up what's left of it, which is usually just a whole load of acid. My throat is raw. I'm worried about my teeth with all the acid on them. My stomach is raw. And I can't sleep. It's 2am and I've just woken up again and been sick again. My hubby's really worried so I've left him in peace for a bit so he can sleep.

Someone please help!!! There must be something I can do or eat that will stop this! :help:

You can eat papaya tablets~ they're better than Tums. :)

Also, if the acid is as bad as you're describing, I'd try Activated Charcoal. Charcoal is Totally safe during pregnancy & nursing (I've used it when I had a breast infection), and it Sucks up toxins. It's used in ERs all the time for food poisoning. It's also great for spider/ant/bee stings/bites, but that's not what you asked about. LOL (You can get it at any herb or health food store.)

Ginger is also good for the stomach, but it's really better for queasy stuff, not acid....

Thanks girls...

I got about two hours sleep last night, and then phoned the midwife this morning. She said that really the only thing I can do is to take Gaviscon or something like that, but she also said that all the anti indigestion stuff really only works for a few minutes, and then the acid comes back...

I was just worried that my continuous throwing up would hurt the baby. Anyway, the midwife said it's all pretty normal and to give her a call again if I need to. I'm just going to eat plenty of fruit today as it digests easily and quickly, and hopefully my tummy will get the chance to repair.

She also suggested I get antibiotics for the flu, which might be a good idea, as the indigestion has been worse since I've not been well.

Will see how it goes, and might look into that charcoal stuff (thanks jgonz) at the local health shop.

Thanks again:wave:

Baking soda...follow the directions on the box...in all of my 7 pregnancies- it worked better than EVERYTHING else, and didn't leave me with that icky post-Tums taste.

let me know if it works for you, okay? DOn't take more than the dosage on the box though! If it isn't on your box I'll look it up- I think it's like a 1/4 teaspoon to 4 oz. water...stir together and chug a lug. I use a bit less water, becuase we have 3 oz. Dixie cups :)

Well, I tried the baking soda last night, and it didn't really work that well. It worked for about five minutes, and then the pain started to come back. I managed to fall asleep for about 1 1/2 hours, maybe two hours, and then woke up about to be sick again, so then I just thought well I'll grab a glass of milk. Had a small glass and a couple of indigestion tablets and I have to say that for me, that was what worked the best. Even though I still woke up every couple of hours (coughing and spluttering from the flu), I didn't have any stomach/acidy sort of pain and my stomach was great this morning...so I think for now I'll stick with drinking milk to soothe it and see how I go from there.

Thanks though...it was definitely worth a try...:)

You sound just miserable! I'm glad the milk helped. I'm in early preganancy- so have a different kind of night heartburn/indigestion and have been eating yogurt just before bed every night...

Oooh, me too... but I've found that avoiding eating for at least an hour before bed is the best way to minimise it (for me!).
