• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

she said that now it's to the point that if she has a headache or something the pain killer never kicks in. what would u call her & what should i do?:sigh: :groupray:

Id call her troubled lol. That is dangerous. She is gonna end up blowing a kidney or something. Id start by just praying for her... from there... I dunno that is a toughy. Talk to her about it. Tell her about the dangers. What a stupid way to get high to. I cant imagine tylenol messing u up to much. waste of a kidney, thats what this is.

Hello,

Up until about a month ago... I have no idea how many mgs of tylenol/generic I was taking. Sometimes 4 in the morning, 4 a few hours later... alot...
If you are talking about basic, over the counter tylenol, I do not believe one can get addicted to that...

I never took these for "fun." as they have no effect whatsoever that one might call fun. I get really bad headaches. Every now and then I would take 4 in the morning just to try to prevent the headaches. I didnt have a headache, just didnt want to get one. I have now been to the doctor and diagnosed with migraines as well as tension headaches. I got a perscription for some nasal spray that I take whenever I feel a migraine coming on...

Anyway, my point is that I was doing the same thing, only not out of an abuse deal, but because of the pain. Is your friend in pain? I hate to seem mean, but if she isnt in pain, (and these are indeed over the counter meds,) then shes just plain dumb... sorry... but they have no effect. This isnt weed that makes you feel good or coke or meth that get you speeded up...
And too many of these pills can be very bad for you. They can cause alot of damage if done like this over time.

Of course if you are talking about perscribed tylenol w/ codine or something like that... then I apologize for my rudeness as these do produce a bit of a high and can be highly addicting.

My advice is that you do a little research on whichever drug she is using, then point out the facts to her and let her know you are very concerned and do not approve. I hope it goes well.

Take care,
Chenoa

yea either she is taking Tylenol which won't produce any sort of high but will mess up the body. Or it's T3s or whatever with codeine and while being a weak opiate it's still an opiate. And they just aren't something you can balance..it goes one pill, two pills, three pills..then better pills. See opiates have a wide range like Codeine in Tylenol 3s, demerol all the way up to heroin and they all work the same addiction just to different degrees. Addictions are different to each person too and experience. After awhile it takes quite a bit just to feel normal so if thats the case she just needs you. I can see why you would want to get in her face but I'd avoid that. But its like the dude above said, we really would need to know more like what it is, how often she takes it. Those details are important if its opiates. If she is just taking plain Tylenol I doubt it's even having a palcebo effect and it must come from some pain or sadness. So maybe she just really needs your attention but cant say that? who knows i can't really guess at it but u will know.
but yeah if u need to know more post back some details or u can e-mail me whatever
good luck man, i know its a tight place to be in
peace
Andrew

I believe it is just plain tylenol.although i think now it's a mind addiction becouse she wants to be addicted to something.:doh:I know she's had it a little rough but it's mainly because of the decisions she has made in her life. She has to go church every sunday because her parents make her, & she's had plenty of things happen 2 her by christians, so now she says she's fed up with God & church. I suppose she could be doing much worse things though.:sigh:
[ i know she wants to :( ] Thanks 4 replying i'll chek back soon if u could help further.

Hey Hon,

You need to tell someone, and soon!!!! That is a not lethal amount if we are talking about tylenol, but if she takes anymore, she could actually kill herself. If you are talking about ibuprophen, then that could easily be a lethal amount if she is taking them all at one time. The extreme limits for these things are 2000mg for acetaminophen and 800mg for ibuprophen, if it is naproxen, then I would also be worried, really worried, because the max on that is 500mg and most doctors wont even give you that much in a prescription. If she takes that more than once a day and only a few hours apart, even that amount it can be lethal, your body can not physically handle more than 6000mg of acetaminophen a day, and that is taking 2000mg every 8 hours and should be under doctors supervision. I really think that you should tell someone, because she could wind up dead one day if she decides to take a couple more, or if she takes them too close together. Please, get her some help, talk to her and talk to an adult that you trust that can get her some help (her parents or a school counselor are good people to go to). If you have any more questions or need anything else, please dont hesitate to PM me, I am around alot.

Tylenol in large quantities can cause liver damage and acute liver failure. She is playing russian ruelette with her liver. I don't know how many pills 2000mg is but if she is taking more than the bottle says to take at one time on a regular basis she is just aking for trouble sooner or later. Please let her know about the damage to her liver she could be causing. :) God Bless
