  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've got a photo that I want to remove from a frame however the picture is stuck to the glass:cry: Any suggestions on how to remove it:help:
Yikes! I would reccomend you take it to a professional lab or something of that nature. That can't be very good at all. My first thought would be to submerge it in warm water, but that probably wouldn't be very good espically if the photo had a tear then the water might expand parts of the paper and cause a big mess.

Hope you can get it off...

Here's one answer from Almanac.com:

Q. How can I remove a photograph that is partially stuck to the glass of a picture frame without ruining the photo?
A. Try wiping it very gently with a slightly dampened cotton cloth. When the photo has absorbed some of the moisture, pull it gently or scrape under it gently with a thin, flat-edged tool. Remove the photo very carefully. The key here is very little, but just enough, water.

An alternative to water:
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/t1664&page=2
I have always used distilled water in a household humidifier. I modified the output nozzle to concentrate the steam vent.
Once this is done you can gently pull the free part of the image back, then pass it once or twice through the steam path. This combines heat and liquid.
Ease the image back very gently until you feel resistance, then pass through the steam path again.
Rinse and repaeat until the image is freed.
All it takes is some patience and a gentle touch.

I just did some searching on Google. It looks like water or steam (as little as possible, and very carefully) is your best bet. If your photo comes out curled up, store it in a very humid environment (like a bathroom with a humidifier running) and see if you can get it to uncurl on its own. When you've gotten it off the glass, press it with pressure between clean sheets of photo blotting paper. The paper should be changed as it gets damp. I'm not sure what could substitute for blotting paper, but if it's really important, it shouldn't be TOO expensive at a camera shop.

Of course, just printing a new print from the old negative would by FAR be the easiest. If that's possible, you might consider it instead of going to all the work of restoring this one!
