• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello,
I am having problems with masturbation. It is becoming an addiction and it needs to stop. If people could pray for me and give me scriptures to use to ward off the temptation, I would appreciate it. Also, any advice would be good. :)

Young brother,
This is just the beginning. Your habbit won't be a full blown addiction untill you start forsaking your faimly or become hooked on the "material" that can so easily support such a habbit... Know that scripture doesn't condem your habbit, religion does. Also know that this doesn't give you a license to do what ever when ever either... Instead of looking to others for advise I strongly recomend looking for yourself! because no matter what scriptures actually say or what people tell you if your not 100% sure of what you are doing or even not doing that is the true sin in all of this... Not your actions..

Goodluck and god bless

My friend... I'm sorry to say this, but you just took off the man-hole cover, and opened the entrance to the bottomless pit called Lust. And it's hard to put the cover back on.

It will get worse, unless this ends. It's like smoking but worse.

USE CAUTION!

My friend... the only thing you can do, is look to god. We can't do anything to help you. But you can look to the Lord, and know that you are safe. I am surprised myself that people can do it knowing Jesus is watching you.

Remember that too. Jesus is watching you as you do it.

But isn't there Bible verses on lust? I heard the temptation is easier to handle when equipped with scriptute and prayer..

If anything is questionable although it seems innocent now, it can quickly turn to lust where you want more and more of it, then you will be powerless to control it. I'd get rid of it now before it gets worse. And take in the word as if your spiritual life depended on it, because it does!

I believe a few people have quoted scriptures already, enough to give you a reason why masturbation is wrong. I know when I came out of this, I'd struggled for awhile as to why/if this was wrong, and how to stop. I think some people still want to find a reason to continue, they are not that serious about wanting to stop. I'm not implying that you are like this. Sex was meant to be between a husband and wife, NO OTHER REASON. Any sex outside of marriage is wrong.
Help is available, one way is through Setting Captives free, and there we learn lots of scriptures and how/why we are tempted. Temptation starts within us, not something outside of ourselves. There iare longings that we think can be met via masturbation, but it's a lie, it's empty, leaves you feeling empty and does not truly satisfy.

**TIME OUT**

This is not a debate forum, this is a support forum. The original poster did not come here to argue about whether or not masturbation was sin or not sin. The poster is looking for support in leaving a behavior he is convicted is wrong.

If you cannot post something to constructively support his walk of freedom, do not post. There are other forums where this issue is actively debated.

Any further 'debate' here will be deleted and warnings will be issued.

Two helpful books you may want to buy are "Every Young Man's Battle" and "Not Even a Hint." These books have very differnt styles, but they both leave one with no doubt that masturbation is sinful. I think of Mathew 5:28 and Job 31:1.

I young friend of mine with the same problem wrote to the Focus on the Family web site, the section for teen boys. They sent him a copy of the first book free. I found that very interesting because the founder of Focus, Dr. Dobson, is often cited as saying not to worry about masturbation. But if you read his entire letter you see that is not what he says and obviously his organization feels strongly enough about the issue to give out free books warning agianst masturbation.
