We have 2 teenage cats. About 8 months old. One of them is more fearful than the other. The brave one keeps climbing our christmas tree! Right to the top! She's wrecked some really special ornaments.

I have tried:
1) lots of tin foil on the floor around the tree. Gentle sister is terrified of it. Aggressive sister is delighted with it!!! Sigh.
2) Spraying her with a water bottle. Which I just upgraded to water and vinager bottle. She hates it horribly, but comes right back to the tree as soon as I leave the room. (I don't know why, as this is how I taught her to stay off the kitchen counters and tabletop.)

I don't know what else to do. She is nuts! Suggestions, please? (And I'll say upfront that I flat out refuse to smack/hit/spank her.)

Help?

We had a cat that used to do that. She especially liked to knock the ball ornaments down (the ones with that satin thread around them made especially festive ornaments once she was done with them!). If it is any consolation, she only did it her first two years and then she grew out of it.

How about putting some kind of smelly thing in the tree which aggressive cat absolutely hates and which will deter her. e.g. possibly a citrus smell

failing that how about a larger water pistol which you could fire from the couch while watching TV.

Failing that are there such things as proximity devices or flashing lights triggered by movement which could deter once she moves into the tree

lots of luck! In my first apartment, after the cats knocked the tree over for the second time, my sister and I tied it to the ceiling with fishing line and a planter hook. LOL
LOL poor cat, but how did you feed it up there?
J/k

My cats stay out side all of the time so I’m not exactly sure about this. Someone showed me a can of whoop cat repellent a long time ago so I would think you could just spray the tree trunk to stop it from climbing. Yes I just searched google.com and there were plenty of repellent sprays.
So open a can of whoop cat on that tree!
