So the same guy I'm debating with about christians being sinless and what not, also believes (from a few out of context verses) that he is now equal with God. Has anyone ever heard of this before?
Here is the website to all this wacky theology.
http://www.wonderfulgod.com/ Apprently it's a church too...

Just to give you an idea of what's going on...

Him
""Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Philippians 2:6-8
This is an exhortation from Paul to have the same mind that was in Christ..which thought it not robbery to be equal with God. We ought to not think it robbery either!! We of ourselves can do nothing, but with God, all things are possible...even being free from sin!!
I serve a God that I believe is more than capable of keeping this vessel in full subjection to his will. That means I believe God is more than able to cause me to keep all of his commandments every second of every day for the rest of my life. If I find sin in my life, it's evident that I have not fully believed the miracle of what Jesus did on the cross when he put the old sinful nature to death. It's evident I am not seated in heavenly places yet. It's evident that the devil still has dominion over me. Yes, even one sin. See the scripture: "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."
James 2:9-11

Him again
"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: BECAUSE AS HE IS, SO ARE WE IN THIS WORLD."

Here is another verse about being equal with God...How else are we to believe we are seated with him in heaven? I'm not saying I could possibly be equal with God of my own doing, I'm saying Jesus has caused us to be equal with God if we believe it! If Jesus is ruling and reigning over our vessels, he is causing us to be as he is!"

I'm am countering, but also keep reemphasizing, CONTEXT. He doens't seem to grasp the idea though...

he is more than just the usual wesleyan perfectionist then?

nothing i see on this website is more than the usual perfectionist arguments.

Unfortunatly it's on "facebook", and unless you are a college student, you can't access it.

There are two parts to the answer to this question.

In the first part, Christians can't sin. Note that this does not mean that we sin in the flesh, it simply means that Jesus has atoned for all of our sins and freed us from the law of sin and death, thus we are no longer imputed sin, otherwise we would die again and repeat the whole process over and over, blah, blah, etc.

In the second part, Christians still act sinfully in the flesh. This sin is material only to our earthly existence and our spiritual walk, it does not affect our destiny (God's sovereign decree of election). Because our human nature is inherently sinful, we will always continue to sin. When the Bible teaches about abstaining from sin because through Christ we have the power to overcome sin, it does mean that we can abstain through faith, but it does not mean that we are freed from our sinful nature. That nature will be with us until we die and are resurrected.

Jon, thank you, I've never heard this before, may I ask where this view was developed? I'm assuming you've read someone at some point...

The only source I had for this was the Bible itself. Especially relevant passages include Romans 3, 5, 7, and 1 John 3:5-10.
