  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,
I am preparing to write an essay on the power of prayer. Can someone direct me to a site that has verses I can look up to use in my essay?

Thanks.

I don't know of any websites that specifically deal with prayer, but a few excellent books you might want to look at that study prayer from a biblical perspective are: Samuel E. Ballentine, Prayer in the Hebrew Bible: The Drama of Divine-Human Dialogue (Overtures to Biblical Theology; Minneapolis: Fortress, 1993); Patrick D. Miller, They Cried to the Lord: The Form and Theology of Biblical Prayer (Minneapolis: Fortress, 1994); and Into God's Presence: Prayer in the New Testament, edited by Richard N. Longenecker (McMaster New Testament Sudies; Grand Rapids/Cambridge: Eerdmans, 2001).
I hope--and pray!:prayer:--these are of assistance to you in the composition of your essay.

Lots of luck. Recent studies indicate that prayer seems to be able to effect events but praying to our "CHristian" God is no more effective than other forms of prayer and meditation.

Greetings Billwald,

Satan is quite capable of mimicking the miracles of God because we are told that he can appear even as an angel of light. We can look at the incidents with Moses and Pharoah of Egypt and see their sorcerers doing most of the same type miracles as Moses, however, it is what happens in the end that counts. The Army of Pharoah was utterly destroyed as they attempted to chase the Jews across the Red Sea.

So I will continue to pray to the ONE TRUE GOD, and you can pray to whichever god Satan leads you to.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie
