  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello friends,

I live in Minsk, Rep. of Belarus. If you are not aware of the location of my country, it is situated in-between Russia and Poland. My native language is russian and belarussian. So forgive my imperfect english.

There's no place in our city where stray dogs could live. If a dog gets cought in the street it's kept for three-four days. Then, if nobody comes to claim that this animal is his or hers the creature is killed. Until lately I had little idea of this cruelty.

Now I embarked upon finding a solution to address this situation. But I'm a novice in this. Our city's government is not responsive. Whatever it takes, I'll do anything to found house for stray dogs in my city. I need any help from anybody. If you know what should first be done, where to look fo money for buying place for this house. Any advice will be greatly welcomed. Maybe there are international organizations that are aimed at helping to provide for the poor creatures good enough conditions to live their lives since it was given to them.

Please let me know anything that in your opinion is worth telling me.

Faithfully Yours,
Sonia Malahova

Unfortunately, that isn't true lilchrisiangurl. While there are no kill shelters here, most city humane societies or pounds have a 3-4 day rule also.
sonia, you might want to contact Save-a-Pet http://www.1-800-save-a-pet.com/
They might have ideas on how you can get things started in your country

Unfortunately, Bean is right. Almost all city or county run shelters have a 3-4 day hold period to allow owners to reclaim animals and then they are at risk for euthanasia. Most owner releases are put down immediately if they are full with the strays. The city shelter down the street from my house won't even adopt out pit bulls, pit mixes, or rotties. They allow owners to reclaim, but euthanize immediately after their hold period is up. Although luckily, there are many no-kill rescues here in the US to help the pets find new homes without being at risk for euthanasia.

To Sonia, I hope you can find the help you are needing. You might try www.petfinder.org It's a site devoted to helping homeless animals find homes, mostly here in the US and Canada. They do have a message board though and you might be able to find people who can offer excellent advice, or help you find help there in Belarus. Good luck!

You may also want to look into finding ways to provide nutering / spaying services , If the population of Unwanted pets is controlled, the unwanted pets being put down will also be reduced.

In some areas there are so many pets wild because the owners let them run free, with no reguards as to what the pets do, resulting is litters being born that are just abandoned.
