I've talked to some of the women about this. Friday, October 11, my husband and I will be flying to Miami to celebrate our first anniversary with a cruise vacation. I am TERRIFIED! I'm losing sleep, throwing up anything I eat, and am basically a nervous wreck. I've prayed and prayed and prayed, and I don't know what to do! I HATE flying, and I keep imagining the plane crashing or blowing up! Please remember me in your prayers? Just pray that God will give me peace, and I will be able to enjoy my vacation! Please!

Unlike some, your fear is a rational one. It can be frightening. I flew up to Washington and back this spring and I would be lying if I said I was not a bit twittery. I almost canceled and decided to drive the 600 miles. But I decided that life is too short to allow fears to stop me from living it to the max.
Face your fear. Point your finger at it and say, "I am not going to let you ruin this special time for me! In Jesus name... I will not fear. I am going to live my life to the fullest and enjoy this marvel God has granted us."
Understand that the drive to the airport is more dangerous than the flight. You are more likely to have a car accident than a plane crash. I know that rationalizations like this don't do much good. But it is a fact.
You are a strong, intelligent person who deserves to enjoy this good time with your husband.

yeah. we all hate phobias :). I'd talk to someone who enjoys flying and talk it over how they experience it. It usually gets me thinking and gets me over the phobia. :)

Flying is a great thing. Why are you thinking about the plane? Gotta be partly because of the setp 11 thing but don't worry. God will keep you safe. You're in your anniversary after all :).

Not Me! No sir! I would not get on that plane. After all there is only so much God can do. If the plane is going down He certainly can't stop that. After all satan is the prince of this world and since he is more powerful than God, I just wouldn't take a chance. No sir!

He may have created everything, that is true, BUT that doesn't mean He is able to control it now. He is no longer in charge.

You can trust Him to save you and give you a home in Heaven, but no reason to think He can control an airplane. Besides what if you were to die? Oh my! Then you would have to go to Heaven! I mean, really, how bad can things be!?!

No you are better off to stay home and throw up. After all THERE you will be safe. NO ONE EVER dies there. :p ;)

Thank you all so much! I'm going to try to spend a little extra time in prayer each day for the next 10 days, call my doctor for some small dose of medication, and with faith, walk on that airplane (with my heart pounding).

Gerry--you're too funny! God bless ya brother!

I'll be praying for you cammie. I, too, get a tad nervous when I have to fly, even before the events of Sept. 11. But usually once I get in the air, I remember that I like to fly. Something that I do, which may sound a bit silly, but when there are little jerks and dips that make me nervous, I watch the flight attendants. They know what is normal and what isn't. If they don't seem to be getting excited, than I feel like everything is ok.

I will be praying that you can put your fears behind you and enjoy this wonderful anniversary with your husband!

With that title I thought there was a real problem.
I amlost busted up laughing when I read your prayer request.

This the thing, its all in your head. You are thinking wrong thoughts, so what you need to do is to "manually" change your thoughts.
I know something about fear. I play basketball, and have been hurt very bad many times doing it. After going through the pain and recovery, getting back on the court can be very hard on your thoughts "if you let it".
I would step on the court and my heart would be pounding with fear, messing my whole game up, and making me depressed about the whole thing.
It would be like you flying and crashing, only to later go back flying agian.

Whenever I went to the courts to play, I would say this over and over "If you want it, you have to take it!If you want it you have to take it!"
This didn't allow any room for fearfull thoughts.

Lord I pray that you guide her into how to control her fears, by controling her thoughts. Give her a super inspireing thought that she can use over and over, whenever she thinks about flying.

Medication isn't such a bad idea...in moderation, of course! Don't want to misuse it. :)
I don't mind flying; I have no idea why. Maybe it's because lots of people I'm close to are scared of it, and I like to be contrary. At any rate, I'll be praying for you. :)

It seems to me that theres alot of fear going around these days (maybe its American/post-september 11 thingy, because we (New Zealand) really dont have a problem with flying fear. You know God didnt give us a spirit of fear, but he gave us a spirit of power and a sound mind. You meditate on this scripture until your flight and actvely resist the liar. do not! accept. In Jesus name have a blessed vacation, amen!

What about second breakfast?
I'm not sure I'd ever laugh at someone's prayer request, Sunstone. A fear may be all in your head, but asking for prayers for the strength to beat it is something I personally take very seriously.

Cammie, I TOTALLY sympathize. I'm terrified of flying, even though I literally live at the end of the runway for SeaTac airport. Never in 21 years have I seen a plane have a problem there, but it still freaks me out every time I get on one.

Before my recent trip to Disneyland, I did a lot of praying for God to help me with my fears, and other than some heavy breathing and silent tears, I did pretty well on the flight (if I do say so myself). Praying really does help.  Also the day before I left, my pastor said essentially the same thing Gerry was getting at. He said..."whats that worst that could happen? The plane would crash and you'd be in God's Kingdom."

That actually helped me a lot. I hope you're feeling better, I will be praying for you!

I think I will stay on the ground until Jesus comes back and takes me in the air. I would be terrified to get on a plane, not because of Sept. 11, but just because of the thought of it crashing. I pray for your safety and well being, and I also pray for everyone on this flight, I pray it stays in the air. I would stay on the ground if i felt like you. God Bless you at ground level, and in the air.

God bless you all! Thank you so much!

I've been meditating on the Word, and I got a prescription for Ativan. Hopefully, I won't have to use it. I'm beginning to feel peaceful; my excitement is taking over my fear! Praise God! We fly in 10 days, so the countdown has begun! Thank you for your prayers!
