Today.... the club that we proposed is now official at our school. Now... we need some ideas to get the club going...

The club is called "Writeway.ink" (you pronounce the "." as dot). Do you have any suggestions for this club (activities we could do, prompt ideas, etc.).

Please keep in mind this is a school club~ thanks!

Hmm. No really good ideas are coming to mind for me, so I'll just give you my non-original suggestions. :) There are writing prompts available on writersdigest.com, you could pick and choose from those. There are also writing contests on there...you could see who is interested in doing them and then do critiques on each other's work before sending them in... Maybe you could do your own little contest...if your budget is low, get in touch with the journalism staff at your school and see if they would be willing to run a little blurb on the winner as the "prize." Or charge a small fee to enter and the winner gets the proceeds... Good luck with your club, it sounds like fun!

I definately think that it is a good idea (if your group is not too large) to go around and introduce everyone every week. This serves to make people feel welcome and easily integrate them into the group. Otherwise, from experience (I help run a writing club myself) it can be hard to maintain membership.

One fun activity that we do is play "the sentence game" where each person starts a sheet of paper with one sentence and passes it along. Then the next person writes a follow up sentence and folds the paper to hide the first. The third person then writes a follow up to the second sentence without seeing the second. When the paper gets full, reading them makes for some interesting entertainment in free-association. Results differ dramatically depending on the group. Most often, they are silly or outright outrageous.

Have a secretary to keep a binder of any type of work submitted/passed out/read on that day.

Perhaps helping younger children to write stories? ((Some clubs at my school need to do community service))

Always have a person to stabalize the meetings ((making sure everyone stays on track, if they're writers, they can probably carry on about anything, after all, we write of life :) ))

That's all I can think of right now, but I'll get back to ya. ;)
