It's important to attend church for numerous reasons.
  1. To learn the Word of God :preach:
  2. To have a spiritual covering
  3. To be able to fellowship with others for encouragement :groupray:

I find myself wondering why, when I can feel the spirit anywhere...

Don't go off of what you feel. It's good to feel the spirit, but what about when you don't feel God presence. Does that mean you'll stop praising God? God will use feelings for new believers but as you mature, he'll wean you off of that. You have to learn to praise and worship God no matter what or how you feel.

Sometimes (occasionally) it is good to get away from others and seek God all by yourself. Even Jesus took refuge in the Garden of Gethsemane to pray alone. However, you should seek other Christians in church and Sunday school to not only learn from, but to also support others. Fellowship is an important part of your faith, and do not forsake it.

You know that's kind-of what happens I find myself in a void. What is a spiritual covering??

Church is for fellowship (I'm guilty of quitting church for the moment).

Church is where you can get spiritual nurture, support, encouragement and to be able to share your experiences with other Christians, to bond and to grow.

It's a place to learn the word of God, yes...

but you can learn the word of God by praying to him and discerning.

Yes, they say it's for spiritual protection. It is important to pray for protection for each other against the evil one. But those prayers come from the only name by which we can be saved and protected by His blood, The Lord Jesus Christ. This is the only spiritual covering we need. Don't be fooled into thinking church leadership is there to 'cover' you. They are there to lead, teach and guide and to build up the saints for the work of service. And as leaders they are to draw on the name and the Blood of the Lamb to ask for protection for you, as are the rest of the congregation.
So, this is a good reason for you to find a church, to have fellowship with, and get to know other chistians who can help you to grow in faith and grace.

(Rev 12:11) "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.

Tavita is right. The leadership of the church is there to lead and teach you. They are to teach you how to stay "covered" and to also pray for you constantly. Paul was Timothy's covering. The spiritual covering comes from the entire church when they pray for one another. I'm apart of the intercessors of my church and we have someone praying every minute of every day because you never know when someone needs prayer. We are assigned a 15 minute slot through-out the day to stop whatever we are doing and just pray. There is literally 24-hour prayer going on for, not just my church, but for the church of God everywhere. We as a family need to realize that we're going through this together and we need to start acting like a family.

How about the Eucharist, Washing of the Feet, Good Friday, Palm Sunday, etc.?

I understand where your concern is coming from, sometimes I feel the same way. Like when my pastor gives a lousy sermon, or when babies cry continously, or when old ladies have conversations during the important parts of the Mass. However, when I approach the altar and remember Christ, that through His sacrifice and love I have been redeemed, it is all worth it. See, church, in my eyes, is a place to escape the world and take part in the Holy Sacraments which were set down by Jesus Christ Himself, not just to do it, but to understand that through oneness with God in Christ Jesus we will never taste death.

It is good to pray always, may we all find a way to never leaver our temple.

-Peace-

Yeah, every Christian needs a healthy balance. Go to church, make friends in the church, have a true community. You can't be with them all the time or your walk will be shallow. This is where the alone time with God comes in.

Most people believe that you need to go to church to be a successful Christian. I disagree. I think the most important things to maintain a somewhat successful Christian walk are reading the Bible and prayer. God isn't just in a church, he's everywhere. He'll help you even if you've never been to church at all. Of course, going to church can help you make some Christian friends and stuff like that but the most important thing is spending time with God and loving Him and trying your hardest to be like Jesus. Of course I'm not a very good Christian now but success doesn't happen overnight, it will most likely take years for me to improve on my walk. I try to read the Bible and pray as often as I can.

Thank you all for the wonderful perspectives! I went to chuch for the first time in a long time. Hoefully it is the beginning of a habit.
I think going to church is important. We haven't found a church to go to yet and there are many times when I wish we had one. Not only is church good for learning about the Bible and for fellowship but it's also a haven from the world. So often I feel like the world is wearing me down and I think going to church and being with like-minded individuals gives us strength and encouragement and let's us know we are not alone in this world. Of course God is our number 1 strength and encouragement but it's still nice to be in a church community.
