Lee Fey said:Well, a couple of other things I'd like to ask as I bring this to people's attention. Should Bible-reading be used as a habit to replace another, less-desirable one, or should the old one be defeated before trying to get into the Bible. This is less exposition and such, I realize this, but overall, I suppose it's a question as to what kind of heart, what kind of attitude should one have before studying the Bible?
There's never a wrong time to read the Bible.
In fact, I think substituting Bible reading for a bad habit is probably the best way to defeat a bad habit. When I'm faced with temptation from something sinful, embracing scripture really helps me get through it.
Ideally, I like to "warm up" to Bible study with prayer and/or worship, but that's not always possible (well, prayer is generally always possible), just to get in the right frame of mind. I ask the Lord to bless my time with his holy Word, so that it may be fruitful and fulfilling.
