Remember Christ says that he remembers our sins no more...after we confess them.
So, in order to go to Heaven, one must make a perfect [meaning honest] contrition at the end of their life and enter immediately into Heaven.
Not possible for everyone.....as you recall, many folks might die suddenly by a train or car wreck, explosion, being bombed, or any number of unplanned yet very quick deaths.
[which is why we must abstain from mortal sins] and if and since we die with venial sins that were not forgiven yet.......... we go thru the final stage of jsutification by Christ. God's love is fire....
WITH which we must go thru in order to be perfect in lieu of a perfect contrition at the end of our life.

33 For Topheth is prepared from yesterday, prepared by the king, deep, and wide. The nourishment thereof is fire and much wood: the breath of the Lord as a torrent of brimstone kindling it.
