Hello.
My name is Ben and I have, for the longest time, felt completely hopeless. I have come here hopeing to learn how one becomes a true believer in Christ and the promises the Bible makes. What I believe, as of now, is that that the bible is filled with wonderful life lessons and solid morals. However, I thus far cannot see it as being anything more than a fictitious work.
I truely want to believe. You have no idea how much I wish I did. It just seems so implausible.
What I'd like to know from you is, as Christians, and my mind is completely open to anything you have to say, how do you sustain the idea that we're more than mere specs in the vastness of the universe? What causes you to take the bible and see it as more than just a book?
As of right now I feel empty inside. I feel as if life is but a cruel joke and that the enventuality is I will die and be nothing more.
Please don't reply with information such as open your heart and let God guide you... I go to Church and I try. But there is this huge unwavering doubt... This skepticism that I just cannot tackle and get out of my head is literally torturing me.
I guess what I'm looking for is guidance.
First and formost, look at Jesus and see what you think about Him. Forget about the world, "other christians", and everything else for just a minute. Focus on Christ -- and ask yourself if He is God or not. THis is where faith comes from, and it's just between you and the Savior.
Most believers in Christ struggle with faith from time to time. I know I have. Lay it out on the table, what creates your doubts. Is it evolution, is it some other religion, or what? Remember that we are dealing with a "supernatural" God. "Natural" constraints don't explain or limit God.
