  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is what we expect her to look something like when she's all grown up (though her face has less brown on it than the cat in this pic):

We're not getting her until sometime next week, but would like to come up with some good name options in the meantime. Any ideas?

I've had two cats in my life (wish it was more but allergic wife fixed that). I got to name the first family cat when I was a kid and her name was Phoebe. The other was one I got after I got out of the marines and I named him Black Death...he was a real piece of work. Always thought Siamese were neat though. One thing about our pet names is that I never forced a name to it, rather I would live with it for a few weeks and let it develop its own name.

Thanks, guys!
LOL, Fleabag? Um, no. Haha.
Thanks for the link, LBF, that's got some interesting lists to look through.
She's actually a Ragdoll, which as far as I can find, was bred from Persians and Burmese.

We're not fans of the Siamese breed in our house. I've had a couple of cats with a lot of Siamese in them. And while yes they're very lively cats with a lot of character, they do NOT make good house pets. They're just too rangy and wild for my liking, and both have badly terrorized my very timid, gentle cat. That's actually why we're getting a Ragdoll now. They're bred to be very sweet, affectionate cats that are happy living mainly indoors.

We both like the name Misha, so we may go with that. But we would like to have a number of ideas because we'll want to get to know her personality a bit before we decide.

What a beautiful kitty!

I've had two cats in my life. The first was named Thai and the other was named Chelsea.

Both times I named the cats...then went looking for them. It was kinda weird really...nope...that's not Chelsea...nope...that's not her...

Then one evening I went to look at a box of kittens...and they were all trying to climb out of the box and mewing at me....Like Pick me...Pick Me except one.

She was way back in the corner with her back against the wall of the box...just throwing a fit. When I went to reach for her...she tried to turn my hand into hamburger...and I KNEW that was Chelsea!

She turned out to be the BEST cat EVER! I have never met a more loving cat than she was.

I like the name Phoebe too...great name for a cat!

I did it that way once. Singled the females out of the litter, and, "OK, which one of you is Ramona?"

And Ramona spoke up. :)

I play hard with cats, we got Death (usually what everyone called him) when he was very tiny and from the beginning he was aggressive~I just made him more so. I wish I had a scanner, I have some pics of him in full attack^_^ My roommate at the time wanted to name him Bear (he had actually picked him out) but it became apparent this one was too refined to be named after a lumbering ursine. It wasn't too bad when he was small, wrestling with him by grabbing his head while he was on his back and he would bite and scratch at my arm and hand, but when he got older people would ask if I was working in a briar patch 'cause my arms would be so scratched up.

I was living in Wyoming at the time we got him but soon moved back to Missouri~~my buddy decided to let me take him with me and at that point Death became my constant companion. He enjoyed hunting in the Ozarks, found the local quarry plentiful; I remember one particular morning when I stepped out to the back porch and found a full sized gray squirrel laying on the back porch. I heard a noise and there was Death lounging in the crotch of tree as though he was a leopard on the Serengeti:cool:

One last story~Death liked to hang out on top of the air conditioner. One of my brother's friends came over with his doberman. Stupidly he brought the dog into the house and the mutt went nuts and chased Death out the door. I figured Death finally met his match and the dog chased him around the yard yet about the time I thought it was over Death made a beeline to my old Dodge and went under it...and that mutt made the mistake of going into an small space filled with teeth and claws. We heard a screech and a yelp and that dobie shot out from under the car and sprinted back into his owner's car. And of course Death walked out from under the Dodge like nothing happened....I sure miss not having cats.^_^

Ragdoll? You mean someone figured out how to take the handsome looks of a Siamese and breed the soul out of it?^_^ Every Persian I ever met was more like furniture than animal..

Rangy and wild~that describes Death, though he was extremely affectionate...we're your Siamese affectionate animals?

Well kinda, but maybe replaced it with a dog's soul. LOL. From what I understand, Ragdolls play fetch and follow their owners around everywhere like puppies.

Yes, very. And very chatty too. But both will snap into attack mode in a split second, too. We still have one of them, actually, but he's going to a hobby farm when we get the new kitten. I think he'll be much happier there as he's clearly a natural hunter. We'll miss his silliness and affection. But he's better off with a big space to run around and chase stuff. And they need a mouser that's also a good family cat. So it sounds like a great match.

He sounds like a great match for me :sigh:

A dog's soul eh? I was on a service job in State College once and a lady had a dog I'd never heard of before called a Shiba and she said that it had a cat's soul...most unique mutt I'd ever met..kinda liked it really.

Yep, he does. And if we lived anywhere near you, I'd have been glad to send Luigi your way. LOL, he's not what I'd call a smart cat, but he's sure brimming with personality. DH is pretty bummed about giving him up. But It's gotta be done since we're only able to take on a housecat.

OK, now that does sound funny. I've known cats that had some dog-like tendencies, but not dogs that are like cats!
