Help! Hateful Atheists

Status
Not open for further replies.
It's become cool and popular and rebellious to hate Christianity and Christians. It's become hard for me to enjoy message boards because they become so full of anti-Christian posts made mainly by atheists and neo-pagans. Their most common comments are:

1). Christians are the cause of all the world's problems. If everyone was an atheist like me, the world would have no problems.

2). Christians are evil because they want everyone to be like them.

3). Christians are hypocrits. (Notice hypocrisy of statement #1 and #2.)

4). Christians are always forcing people to convert to their religion. (Yeah, sure, I go around holding a gun to people's head and demanding that they turn to Christianity.)

5). Christians are hateful. (And yet, the same people who say this go around speaking hateful words like the ones in this post constantly.)

I don't know what to do. I tell people who say this stuff that their comments are hateful and disrespectful, but they ignore me and go on spouting more "Christians are evil!" garbage.

Do not let this bother you!

Remember that all the prophets, apostles, and even Jesus Himself endured these things. It is a part of the Christian walk and something that you will never escape in this life.
Many years ago I prayed about the hate that seemed to issue from every segment of society toward people who love Jesus and are not ashamed of His name. The Lord told me one simple phase that I have lived by ever since.

"Your strangeness to the world will drive you closer to Me..."

Let this happen in your life. Gather together with other beleivers who love His name and who suffer like things.

This persecution is to be expected.
Mat 10
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

The hate is irrational and in itself is a confirmation that what we believe is the truth. Why else would they be so insistant in their attacks?

Endure this till the end, and He will save you. I would suggest praying for those how hate you (all of us Christians) for being and believing the way we do. So pray for them, and in the meaning give them biblical insight.

I understand where youre coming from... with increased activity by the ACLU to 'beat down' christianity, the world itself is rapidly becoming more anti-christian. Christian values and traditions are discouraged in school and we are definitely more discriminated against than other religions... but hey... we win :)

I don't mean to be obvious, but have you ever considered finding another message board? Here are some good Christian boards where I post. For the most part, I've found everyone there to be very friendly.

http://www.keylife.org
http://www.baptistboard.com
http://www.crosswalk.com

Their most common comments are:

1). Christians are the cause of all the world's problems. If everyone was an atheist like me, the world would have no problems.
Hmmm...Marxist countries such as China and the former Soviet Union were both atheist countries. Not exactly shining examples of human rights advocates, are they?

I would point out that the church, as portrayed in the NT revolutionized the way that women were treated, the way that employers are to treat employees, the way people are supposed to treat each other.

The real problem isn't that everyone isn't an atheist, it's that people who claim to follow Christ, don't live like it.

2). Christians are evil because they want everyone to be like them.
What that they want everyone to be Christians? If what we as Christians believe is true, then that is the only loving thing to believe. If we truly believe that we are sinners bound for Hell and teh only way of salvation is through Christ, then just the opposite is true: it would be evil for Christians not to want others to be Christians.

3). Christians are hypocrits. (Notice hypocrisy of statement #1 and #2.)
Hypocrites by what standards? That we sin? What's hypocritical about that? Christianity isn't for people who don't sin, Christianity is for people who do sin and are honest enough to admit that we need God's help to overcome our sin.

4). Christians are always forcing people to convert to their religion.
How do Christians do this? Since Christianity is a change of the heart, how can someone be forced to do this?

In history, there have been cases of well meaning and not so well meaning people trying to convert the heathen at the point of a sword. But since such a practice is never taught in scripture or in any of the teachings of Christendom, isn't it likely that these people are not representing Biblical Christianity, but have instead completely misunderstood the entiure point of Christianity?

5). Christians are hateful.
Go to the message boards at keylife.org and then go to the message boards at internet infidels and tell us which group is more hateful.

Are there Christians who are hateful? Sure there are. Go to Baptistboard.com sometime and read the posts by a guy named enda. Some of the things he says will peel the paint off the walls. But is this an accurate representation of Christianity? Of course not. Christ condemns this sort of behavior soundly and repeatedly.

I don't know what to do. I tell people who say this stuff that their comments are hateful and disrespectful, but they ignore me and go on spouting more "Christians are evil!" garbage.
Why do you beat your head against the wall this way? Even Jesus told His disciples that there was a time to shake the dust off your feet and move on.

It appears to me that any talk that people (quickly) deem "religious", is to them, you trying to convert them.

Christianity is also seen as just another religion, something with set rules and regulations that traditional people follow.

It is really up to us, however, to change that view by serving God and edifying ourselves as well as other servants.

And yes, there are also those who are escapists, seeking to blame their problems on anything they find that others have no problems with bashing.

Let it go, hon. When they attack you they are attacking Jesus. IF he can love them unconditionally, then we can too. Remember that they do not know the Lord and through his love they too can be saved. Love them and pray for them. God bless you.

Well, take it with a grain of salt.

Pagans are devil worshippers. Hear that one all the time.
Look, I'm not bashing. People get stereotyped and it's not okay, good, or even reasonable. A few bad apples sour someone on Christianity and then it's 'I hate those Christians, they're trying to take over the world.' People who decide a whole group is bad because of some bad experiances are not open minded and don't deserve a second thought.

I'm neutral towards Christianity. I don't love it, don't hate it. I love some people who are Christian, and hate others. People on all sides of the multiple dividing lines of life should realize that it's individuals that make up the group, the group doesn't make the individuals.

Also, you have done what was done to you: "Hateful Atheists" you should know that not all Atheists are hateful. Just as all Christians are not obsessive Bible bangers who knock on your door during dinner to remind you that you're going to hell. Obviously.

Tolerance is not the thing we need most. Individual understanding is the thing we need most.

Hi, RC!

I'm so glad I found this message board, and I share your concerns. The reason I came here is because I've been having similar problems on another message board which deals with world politics, and focuses on Israel and the middle east.

Although it's a mixed crowd of diverse people around the world, the Christian bashing has gotten intolerable. I've tried responding to the accusations many times in different ways (as have others) but it just seems to snowball and pick up speed. The moderator of the forum I'm referring to is a left-winger, Wiccan or neo-pagan type, who suddenly decided several weeks ago to bash anything and everything Christian.

My conclusion - there are left-wingers out there whose purpose it is to incite hatred by spreading propaganda against both the U.S. and Christianity. The message is if the world were free of religion (especially Christianity) there would be no wars at all. They even refer to the war in Iraq as the "Christian War."

Having delt with athiests I find that they mostly try to disprove any theist idealology, using logic. I've never encountered "hate" as you speak of. They mostly have tried to show how misguided they think I am.
If you are encountering hatfull atheists then maybe they've been attacked, in the past, by hardened Bible thumpers and are attempting to ward off any other attacks.
They do believe (to an extent) that ridding to world of faith, and replacing it with pure logic, will bring about some utopia.

These days, the internet has preempted TV as the vaste wasteland, and it sounds like we need a Christian Anti-Defamation League! If one exists, please let me know. There are so many websites that should be condemned and put out of business for permitting hate speech.

If they think Christians are hateful, why not use it as an opportunity to quiet witness through your actions? Running away will let them think you've given in. Swapping insults with them (not to say that you ever would) will just support their beliefs. But show them how a true Christian acts, and then you're serving God!

In the Arab countries a Jehad or Holy War can only happen if ALL the arib countries agree to go against a particular country, it seems everyone uses the term Holy War very loosely these days.
You will notice that since it has become common knowledge that Israel has "the bomb" that none of the Arab countries will become directly involved in a toe to toe war. They know that before Israel will allow itself to be overrun, all the capital cites of the attacking nations would be in radioactive ruins. So instead they support terrorism against Israel and those countries that support Israel. Terrorism is the way they conduct holy war these days in order to avoid getting zapped. When they finally have their own bomb, they will be more aggressive in their attacks.
