  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all
I`m hoping some of you knowledgeable bible readers can help me find Jesus`s teachings in the bible.I know this sounds lazy, but i just need to know what Jesus tought, because i`ve forgotten it and i`ve just started pondering about Jesus again, and i have no idea where to look because the bible is long,so if you can, can you please help me.
I`m after what Jesus said about how we should live our lives.

Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Christ.

Pray, fast, and give to the needy.

Pray often, and do so in a way that doesn't draw attention to yourself.

Love God and your neighbor with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And the greatest expression of love is to lay down your life for your friend.

Concern yourself with your own sins and not those of your neighbor.

That pretty much sums up how Jesus wants us to live.

Do yourself a favour and use a recent translation (unless you normally speak early-modern English). A good one is Common English Bible. http://www.biblestudytools.com/ceb/mark/1.html
You can turn on red-letter.

And beware of just reading Jesus's words. More often than not his primary teaching is in his action; the words then help to explain that action. If you isolate the words from the narrative you heavily distort what he meant by them.
