  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When I double click on a folder instead of the folder opening normally, it opens as a search box and doesn't show any of the folders contents. I don't want a search box, I just want the folder to open normally. I can still open the folder by right-clicking and clicking open but that is horribly slow. This problem just recently started when my friend started using my computer. He has no idea what he did and I have no idea what he did... Please help me...!!!

Sounds like you got a virus or spyware

Im guessing your using Windows ? correct ?

If so, check that you are up to date, updated virus scan, and install & run BOTH "Adaware" & "Spybot Search & Destroy"

Well it isn't running any spyware box. When I double-click, windows just assumes that I want to search for a file in that folder but I don't want to. I already run ad-aware and AVG. I will get Spybot too.

[Addition edit]
Okay I ran Spybot and am currently running anohter virus scan. The problem still remains (Spybot did get rid of some spyware) and now I am pretty sure that the problem lies in some hard to find windows settings somewhere. I tried messing with mouse options and tried to fix the problem by changing default folder esxtension function to open and still I can't fix it. All suggestions are welcome.

Hmmm. I believe your problem is covered by Microsoft Knowledge Base article 321186...see this link: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321186

Also, I did a Google Groups search and found a discussion where someone was having the same problem (Search opening instead of the folder) and it was after they installed something called DirGraph. But I suppose the Knowledge Base article is more authoritative.

I hope this was of some help.

God bless.

Thank you so much WeakButHopeful! I used the MS Knowledge Base to solve my problem. You are so awesome I love you! I am so happy, having to right click and go through an extra step every time I wanted to open a folder was so annoying. Thank you very much. Oh this is so great. Wooo *Does a little dance* Yay!!!
