  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My two favorites are the NIV and the HCSB. But really, I hate the word "version" with a passion. They're not versions, they're translations. Sometimes I'll go back to ye olde King James, simply because they knew how to talk with a poetic flourish back then that we have lost today. I tend to be very leery of translations done solely by one individual, or one denomination/church. Translations done by major committees made up of lots of smart people from lots of denominations are the best way for men to make a translation faithful to the original languages and free of denominational bias. Also, since I don't know any ancient Greek or Hebrew, I've adopted the "testamony of two or three witnesses" theory of bible study. When wondering how accurately a particular passage is translated, I'll look it up in several versions. Grandted, that's not as reliable as being able to go back to the original Greek, but it's better than looking only at the same version over and over again.

I was just reading the Conservative Forum guidelines. It meantioned the Holy Scriptures. Is it speaking of any particular version of the Bible?

I don't think it matters in this forum; you should be fine. :)
