Hi everyone,

I've already written an introduction of myself in the "Introductions" forum, but I thought I'd say hello to everyone in here. :)

As mentioned in my profile, I'm planning on converting to Greek Orthodoxy in 2004, from my current faith as a Roman Catholic. The problem here is that in New Zealand there are only a select few Orthodox churches - whether they be Greek, Russian, or whatever, compared with the thousands and thousands in the US.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and I hope everyone's doing great. :)

See you later,

Matthew Sheehan.

Hello Matthew,

I am new to this forum as well, but I wanted to be sure and say hi. Where I live now there are no local parishes and the closest church is over 100 miles away. I converted to Holy Orthodoxy about 6 years ago (along with my wife and kids).

It is tough to not get to go to Divine Liturgy as often as we would like, so I was thrilled to find an edifying forum such as this. You will be in our prayers. May the Lord bless you in your journey.

In the love of our Saviour,

Alfred

I live in the sticks of West Texas....no wait we don't have sticks here, there are no trees. Just kidding about the trees... we do have some in December when people ship the Christmas trees in to sell.

Like I said, we live in a small West Texas community with the nearest church about a hundred miles away. The Church we were Chrismated in several years ago was a mission Church that really never took off and the retired Priest fully retired.

We have our nice icon corner with home incense burner that we use for our prayer times. I really miss the regular Divine Liturgy but it is expensive to travel and I cannot move at this time...so we do the best we can.

I sure enjoy the info posted here. Hope to contribute more in the future and get to know all of you.

In the love of our Saviour,

Alfred, chief of sinners

I just wanted to say, bless you for sticking with your faith! I know people who are too lazy to go to church even if it's just down the road! Your kind of devotion is all too rare these days.

I heartily concur, Alfred! I am certainly blessed to have my pick of many different parishes, both Eastern and Western rite.

Welcome to you too Matrona.

Alfred -

Now you've done it! I can't read one of your posts now without hearing Marty Robbins in my head singing

Out in the West Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl . . . !

It's a good thing I like that song!

I used to live in Texas, too, but in the DFW Metroplex (we had some trees
. . . and Orthodox churches).

Have you visited OC.net? You might enjoy that site, as well.

I used to live in the DFW area (Irving, TX...home of the Cowboys) as well. Back in 1985-87 while going to school. That was before I converted. When we are in that area, we usually visit one of two parishes... Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox (a big beautiful newer church with beautiful frescos) or a smaller Antiochian parish near friends.

Since I am new here...could someone instruct me as to how you get all the cool stuff around your name.

In the love of our Saviour,

Alfred

Hi Alfred. Welcome. The quote below gives a sort of run down on the features of the Christian Forums, and more information is found at the FAQ section which is found on the top blue bar.

How to USE blessings:

1. Bless other members by clicking on the blessing icon (red heart and cross) under their posts, or on their blessing count itself.

2. Get a Post Signature for 50 blessings.

3. Get a Profile Photo for 150 blessings.

4. Get a Custom Avatar for 200 blessings.

5. Get a Custom CF Homepage and Domain Name for 1000 blessings.

Remember, you can be creative with blessings. In the past, members have held competitions, played games, and exchanged blessings in other interesting ways. Note that you are not allowed to "beg" or "solicit" blessings for nothing in return in posts or PMs.

Enjoy blessing each other, and remember - it's more blessed to give than to receive!
