• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is just an introductory hello to me for everyone who reads on here. I have bipolar type II. I am still coming to terms with what that actually means. I was diagnosed after being admitted into an hospital for a depressive episode.

I am taking Lithium 900 mg, along with 40gm of geodon. I also take Zyprexa as needed for mania sypmtoms.

I have gained over 35 lbs while on this stuff and I am so embarrsed to be this big. I stand at 5'7 and use to weigh 125, so you can see why adding another 35 lbs is depressing.

Has anyone had success losing weight while still taking lithium?

My moods lately have been pretty stable, but I notice I am getting in the mood to want to go shopping.

anyhow, hope every one here is well and good atleast for the moment.

Hi Alaskamomma!

I'm bipolar as well, not sure which type though. I've never been on lithium, but I have been on geodon and Zyprexa. With me, it was zyprexa that caused the weight gain. i gained 40 pounds in a month when i was on it!

geodon caused me to have sleep problems, i couldn't sleep at night, just nap a little during the day. so i'm not on that anymore either. but if it works for you that's great.

right now i'm on depakote and abilify, they seem to work well for me :).

i can understand being in the mood to go shopping! lol. i work in retail so i'm always wanting to shop and spend my discount....

welcome to CF! there are a lot of great people on this site, i hope you like it here....

Hi,

I have BP type II as well, I was diagnosed ages ago and started on meds well but then fell off the wagon, now I am back where I started from and am starting back on my meds. I'm on 100mg of zoloft and 400mg of epilim, which is sodium valproate or depakote in the US.

I have also been advised that it is a lifetime treatment thing, and am concerned about how the medications will efffect pregnancy...

Welcome to CF and the BP forums, Alaskamomma.

I have BP and take Depakote, Loxapine, and Seroquel right now. I have had about 4 hospitalizations and a rocky road with this thing since I attempted scuicide as a teen. But currently I'm pretty stable and able to work a full time job and all. I've gained a lot of weight on Seroquel, though I didn't find Lithium did that to me when I was on it.

Called2Grace, from what I understand, if you're even planning to attempt to get pregnant you can't be on most BP meds. I'm sure that's something you have to work out with your doc.
