Hello, I just found this forum and thought it would be beneficial to sign up. I'm a Reformed Presbyterian, son of a current Presbyterian pastor and hoping one day to also become a pastor. I'm theologically a traditionalist (also politically but I don't know if we're supposed to talk about that outside of a political section). I am currently PCUSA, but I am hoping to join either the PCA or the OPC and get ordained in either of those denominations.

Glad I found this website, looks like a wonderful community.

Good to see you here. I'm curious --why not stay PCUSA? I assume your beliefs differ from theirs, or at least from their focus, and would like to know in what way.

Welcome. I was in a Presbyterian youth group decades ago. I remember we were singing contemporary Christian songs then. Went Christmas caroling with them once.

I don't agree with their support for abortion, allowing of gay clergy and gay marriages to be performed, and their allowing of female ministers.

Welcome. Curious, but what took you away from PCUSA? How, or why, did you become traditionalist?

So it's not exactly by their liberal use of Biblical doctrine? I guess my question is, does a more substantial view of God's sovereignty and the authority of Scripture not play into it?

I would have to say it does a bit, personally those issues I listed are all the faults I know of but I'm sure there are more. I just want a more traditional (Biblical) church, and the PCUSA is not that.

You're right about that! The PCUSA is not. Have you studied Reformed Theology much? I fell in love with it when it said what I have learned (through hard experience and much study) much better than I could. Didn't even know I believed Reformed Doctrine till I heard some Reformed teachers and the old folks like John Owen. It's almost like eating food to read his stuff. An example: “He that hath slight thoughts of sin never had great thoughts of God.”

I have been getting into reformed theology recently. RC Sproul is probably one of my favorites. I tried to dive headfirst and read Calvin's the Institutes but that was to difficult for a younger guy like me, not accustomed to a lot of reading. But, I do have quite the collection of theology books that I do plan on having read someday.
