• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jenn I am a 33 year old woman married to the love of her life Jeff for over 7 years now and we have been blessed by god with a beautiful baby boy Thomas who is a little over 2 years old now. We are loving sweet family that is having a rough time of things right now. Here is our story:
Our family has been through so much I can't stand it. First my husband got laid off and then two weeks later we were evicted from our apartment and then he got a job and we got a small an apartment that is pretty run done but we got an apartment nonetheless so that was good. Then I recently got a job to help out because we have a child at home and we needed the second income. But now I got laid off this week from my job and my husband's job pays very little and although I lined up job interviews this week we don't have enough gas money for me to get there!! So I don't know what to do I am at my wits end. I called for financial help at DHS but they said we make too MUCH!! We make 24,000.00 a year for a family of three!! And we don't qualify for food stamps either! So as pathetic as this is if we can get any assistance at all help through store cards for milk, diapers, baby wipes, etc., gas cards or grocery cards for meats and vegeatables that would be more than kind. Thank you so very much for your time and consideration.

Please know this embarasses me greatly but I don't know what to do besides cry.

Hello.

I'm sorry you're going through all this, but you must rely on God to provide. He always does.

That said, aren't there several resources for families in need? What about WIC? I thought their primary focus was making sure children had what they need in the way of food, diapers, etc. Have you contacted them?

Here's the link to their site: WIC

It looks to me like you'd easily qualify.

WIC Income Eligibility Guidelines

(Effective from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008)
48 Contiguous States, D.C., Guam and Territories

Family of 3 - $31,765/year

Have you talked with your pastor about whom might have an idea where help can be found? I wish I knew more about these things, but I'm hopeful that someone here will soon be along with a lead for you.

I'm praying for you. :crossrc:

Thank you porterross for your thoughtful response. I actually do have WIC and although they are helpful they only provide you with checks for milk, cereal, juice, cheese, and eggs. Which like I said is helpful but you can't get meats or veggies or fruit and obviously not assistance for gas or diapers. And Thursday I went to the local food pantry at a church down the street from where we live and got an emergency bag of canned foods which also was helpful but we still need so much. I have spent this whole week in solitude sad and tearful I haven't answered the phone or seen anyone I am just having a hard time of it all. It just kills me that I could have a job later this week but not be able to get there because we don't have the money for me to put gas in my car. :(

You're welcome. I'm sorry that you are still in such need. Are you a member of a church or do you attend?

I know that our churches and many others will indeed help people with gas vouchers in circumstances such as yours. Please don't be afraid to ask them for such help, whether you have attended or not. A follow-up call with good news or a thank you will be enough.

You know that isolating yourself is not doing you or your family any good. Speak with a pastor or priest and know that you have nothing to be embarrassed about.

I didn't know about the gas vouchers I will definitely have to look into this. I told the church when they gave me the bag of food that I would be donating some clothing and the pastor was very happy. I do have baby clothing and clothing I do not need that I will donating to the church this week. Right along I have been donating my son's clothes and toys to people online for free but now I start donating them to the church as well. I try to help others in need as much as I can even if I can't financially for instance I am regular blood donor, I donate items I have in my home to others who are in need, and recently I decided to become a bone marrow donor. I know that I am not the most altrustic person and I have my flaws but I do try and do good when I can and I don't want anyone to get the impress that I only receive and not give because I do really give as much as can when we can.

I'm so glad you found your way here! I hope to see you around. A good place to start may be the Women's Discussion Threads. Also come hang out with us in the Blessing Exchange. There are some really nice people in there. Pete_ hosts a Newbie thread there on Sunday. If you come and post at least 20 times he will give you 1000 blessings! You can use that to get your character all decked out and stuff! Be sure to tell him I sent you and I will get blessings to use to help the CF Pets too.

Hope to see you there.

Share with the pastor what you've shared with us here and let him know how specific your need is. I don't believe your request for help with temporary fuel expenses or a means to a workplace will be denied. It is actually more common than many of us realize, but unless you ask, no one will know how they can help.

I like to donate blood as well and we always donate clothing. Others have been helped by your selflessness and were never able to say thank you. You have the opportunity to both allow someone to help you now and to also thank them. God has His own reasons for this, but you already know that. ;)

I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. I think you have been given good advise, to share with your pastor. There may be some dear person in your church who would help you get to your interviews or help you in other ways. Please don't give up. Please think about answering the phone when it rings because it could be someone offering help or a call to say you have a job.

I can testify from personal experience that the Lord has never let us down and HE always provided for us. I am sure HE will provide for you too.

Praying for you :prayer:

Love and blessings

It just occurred to me....I know that you are very generous and able to donate clothing and things to your church but do you have any items you could sell on ebay for example? Do you have any skills to make things that you could sell? One pastors wife I knew did very well sewing dolls clothes and selling them on ebay. Just a thought.

Blessings
