  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My name is David.

When I was about 5 years old, I was diagnosed as profound autistic. The doctors told my mother that I would never be able to communicate with other people, let alone my own family. So in order to be a 'normal child' as the doctors put it, she has to do what they ordered. That would mean years of psychiatrists, prescription pills, and speech therapists. Meanwhile, my mother went through 4 weeks of grief thinking that she would eventually have to come to terms with the doctors orders, especially of my not having a future. However, being a strong woman of faith she is, she shunned all the apprehensive predictions, as well as the doctor's orders. So with that, she prayed relentlessly for a way to help me to get through this. When she was done, the commercial for 'Hooked on Phonics' was on television. That was a sign from God.

When I was about seven, I started to read at a sixth grade level. Everyone was flabbergasted about the results, especially my mother. Even though she was not done with my progression, it was a wonderful start for her. Anyways, about ten years later, I have graduated from Coral Reef Senior High in '02 (a magnet school) and was a straight 'A' student, including from Cutler Ridge Middle.

After high school, my mother applied me to American Intercontinental University in Weston, FL., and have started immediately after the end of summer vacation. Three years later, during the Senior Design Project/Portfolio class presentation, I have produced a 16-minute animated trailer for an animated feature, entitled Pastor Samurai Kappei. This trailer was accomplished during Senior Design Project class and Final Portfolio.

A year later, at the graduation ceremony, I received a trophy of exceptional achievements, and becoming one of the youngest university graduate at 20 years of age. It's because of my mother and God's love for me that I was able to get this far... and for that, I am deeply in their debt.

Now, how about you tell us about you and Jesus? I'm all ears.

...I don't understand the question... I'm sorry, but I'm a little stressed out now.

I've been a Christian all my life. My mother was, and still is, a devoted Christian woman.

...am I missing something...?

Fury,
Your post has thrilled me! I am a retired special education teacher and I have extensive education in autism. I have taught several students that has autism. My son has Asperger's syndrome.

I am not surprised at your progress. I had 4th grade twins with autism that read the encylopedia for pleasure. Often when one needed stimulation, he would read the dictionary and stimulate on "naughty" words.

We often disagreed with doctors because we actually knew more about autism than they did.

I am glad you have your faith in God. Listen to your mother as she sounds like a very wise woman.

Willie,
Communication is the major disability with persons with autism. They know what they want to say, but cannot always find the words to say what they want. It often stresses them greatly. Have paitence with him and give him encouragement for the progress he has made. With God's help, he can and will live a productive life.

Thanks for that... but that's not the reason why i'm stressed out, though. I'm stressed out because I have been jobless for over six years... I have a post that'll get into more details.

I'm so happy when I hear these stories. My brother has aspergers syndrome which is a mild form of autism, and he struggles daily. He is getting better as he gets older, but sadly he does not have the greatest support system in his home. I do not mean to speak ill of his father and new stepmother, they just tend to get frustrated easily and seem to have given up on helping him. Anyway, I am happy to hear that your situation turned out better, and hopefully his will too.
