"blasphemes against the Holy Spirit"

I've been told many many time that Blaspheming the spirit is a life long commitment like the way the Teachers of the law lived... if you reread verses 20 to 30 again Jesus never said, because of what these men said, that "these men" will not be forgiven.. he said anyone who was blaspheming the spirit would not be forgiven.. that would indicate an on going life style... Jesus didn't condem these men at the time because at the time there was still hope for them, to come to repentance. because the work of the spirit is continuous, if these men at anytime in there life came to a place of repentance they would have been forgiven, but if they choose in there free will to speak contemptuously "Blasphemeo" the Spirit as a way of life then there sins couldn't be forgiven.. Because you've gone through your repentantance your free and clear.. So stop worring!

If you read those ten verses 20-30 you will have no doubtly seen the parable of jesus where says: no theif can steal from a strong mans home unless he first ties him up.. Well this is what the "Evil one" is doing to you and your faith, through this unfounded guilt and hopelessness.. he's tieing you up and stealing your security in hopes to bring you back to a life of blaspheming... Break your bonds and enjoy your freedom.. continue to grow in the lord, because that truly is your best defence at these types of attacks.. "Armor of god"

The things Mr_E and TheListener have mentioned are NOT blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

In fact, if you're worried about having committed that sin, then you haven't.

Remember that David was forgiven for his sins, as was Saul/Paul, as was Peter.

Mr_E,

I need to be brief right now, I can expand later when I'm not on my work computer. Suffice it to say for the present that God is aware of our human weaknesses and is eager to remember the extent to which we may not be fully culpable for our actions.

Given that you did not will this to happen, that it was to some extent the result of some emotional or chemical issues and thus out of your control, then you did not in fact "bet your soul". None of this caused your relationship with God to be severed.

On top of that, even someone who deliberately, with full knowledge and consent, commits a sinful act with the intention of thereby rejecting God, even then God will accept him back if he later wishes to return.

And welcome to the Forums.
