Hellboy

Has any one read the comic book Hellboy by writer Mike Mignola?
The movies are not that great, kinda fun but not great
the comics on the other hand seem to be much better

the demons in the books are evil, they lie and to hurt people
so many modern books have demons are seen as being noble

also some of the stories talk a lot about free will (the titular Hellboy is half demon and half human and the demons of the book keep trying to tell him it is his "destiny" to cause the end of the world, an idea Hellboy rejects)
and that even though you have to live with the results of your actions it is never too late to turn away from evil and live your life for God
Christianity in these books is more then just a accesory like in so many fantasy books, with holy water and crosses little more then tools to fight vampires

I have not read all of the series yet
but it seems very good

I have not read the comic books, but I did like the movies. I wrote a paper on Hellboy II for a philosophy class. I got an A. The teacher said that he didn't think I could pull it off...but it was easy, really...because it was based on a comic book that dealt with good and evil, free will, deciding your own destiny, stuff like that. Lots of good stuff there.

I am sure that the comic books, themselves, are even better.

in university i had a dorm mate who would watch that show...
EVERY EPISODE WAS THE SAME!!!!!!!!! lol

My oldest son gave me his Hellboy comics to read when I didn't have anything to read.
I read them all and loved them.
I also loved the movies and thought Ron Perlman did an excellent job.
Was not happy the way Abe was depicted though.

one story tells the tale of St.Leonard who was a hermit who killed a dragon, neat story

well in the books anyway, hellboy is half human half demon, also it is a fictional story and does not pretend to teach true stories

parts that i like are
the art is amazing

the stories are offten fun and well written

it shows that evil is evil, there are characters who are good people and have moments of weakness or people who are good but just misguided, but then there is also evil, both human and demonic, and they just want to hurt people
people who try to make deals with the devil, or just about any other supernatural thing, do not have good endings, they get messed up, mostly killed
