If I shun god but am still a good person, who helps others and isn't violent .etc. would i go to hell?

We can not earn our own salvation. All men are sinners, and I can see from what you have written already that you are no different. The only way to heaven is by our Savior Jesus Christ.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

So everyone born before Jesus was forced to stay in hell until he was born? It sounds a bit strange that an omnibenevolent being such as your god would allow millions of his believers who were good people to burn in hell untill Jesus arrived and opened the gates. I think you're just making this up.

Israel was saved, in the OT. After Jesus was crucified, and died, he went down to hell, and there he saved the believers. He was then resurrected. Salvation is no longer through sacrifice, but through faith in Jesus. We are still to be good people, and not sin any longer.

It is also interesting to note that some people that were not Israelites in the OT came to believe in the one, holy God, and were saved too. So it wasn't just Israel, it was for everyone. Israel believed in the promised Messiah, and were saved through that.

They don't burn in hell. You are speaking of the lake of fire at the end of days. They were simply dead.

No one is in hell now. Everyone is in a type of deep sleep until Jesus comes again and then they will be judged and sentenced to Hell or rewarded to Heaven. Those before Jesus will be judged when we are all judged and it will be God who decides who gets in and who does not. Those who lived before Jesus will be judged by the OT and those after Jesus will be judged if they followed and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

What? No one is in hell I have just been told by about three other people that there is a hell. Can you decide between yourselfs whether you believe in hell or not because otherwise this debate will get VERY complicated!

Well this is not the debate forum so we can't debate here.

I never said that I don't believe in hell. What I said was that no one is in hell right now. Read revelations.....it explains it all there. Christians have different opinions about heaven and hell and if people are there already. From what I have read in revelations I believe that there is a heaven and hell but no one is in either place until Jesus comes again and then those of us that are dead and sleeping will raise and we will be judged on that day and then those who are saved will be with Jesus and those left behind will be sentenced to hell.

So, until Jesus comes again, everyon is just sitting around inbetween, that sounds like a bit of a punishment to those who died maybe 1,500 years ago, just sitting around waiting to get into heaven.

they are in a deep sleep of sorts and have no idea of time or wait. And it will be worth the wait when Jesus comes again.
