I am doing a study of the book of Hebrews that I stopped doing because on another forum people were saying that it was way too hard for me to do, but, I decided to do it again. I am on Chapter 11, and, when I get it all done, I will compile it into one big report, and, I will post it here for all to read, and, to not judge me. I may not be the smartest guy for this boook, but, at least I am trying to do a study. So, I will post probably by the beginning of next week sometime. God Bless you all for reading this, and, not making fun of me. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings. The study on Melchizedek could be interesting.
This one Christian did an 8 part series just on him. I hope to hear more from you on your study and I admire your zeal to delve into that book. Peace

In Genesis, chapter fourteen, we have one of the most intriguing stories in the Bible, that of Abram's encounter with Melchizedek, king of Salem, and "the priest of the Most High God." In the Genesis story Melchizedek is a strange and mysterious figure.

He flashes across the scene like a meteor. There is no heralding of his appearance, nor any mention of its results. He arrives out of the blue; there is no account of his family; there is nothing about his birth, his descent, his life, his work, or his death. He simply arrives.......

Hebrews 7:1 For this the Malkiy-Tsedeq/melcisedek <3198>, King of Salem, Priest of the GOD of the most-high, the together-joining Abraham turning-back from the smiting of the kings, and did bless him. [Genesis 14:18]

did you notice how many times translators of the book of hebrews add the word 'covenant' to the english texts to 'make it flow' when it actually reads okay without them, but does alter the theology of the book quite a bit.

I feel that if the text reads alright on its own, why add words. I suspect words are added to make it fit reformation theology, rather than alter the flow (but it may be both.)

Steve

p.s. here is a list...

hebrews 8v7 - covenant not in the greek (KJV)
hebrews 8v13 - " " " " " " " " " " " (KJV)
hebrews 9v1 - " " " " " " " " " " " (KJV)
hebrews 9v18 - " " " " " " " " " " " (NIV)
hebrews 10v16 - covenant occurs twice in the greek only once in translation (NIV)

incidentally, the phrase 'old covenant / old testament' occurs only once in the apostolic writings and even then it is not discussing sacrifices or the legal codes or anything remotely similar... its place 2 Cor. 3v14

I hope this helps. All the characters metioned in Hebrews 11 were good, loyal people who served God. Yet at the end of the chapter Paul says none of them saw the fulfillment of the promise. Were they disappointed at all? They lived their life and died without seeing God's promise fulfilled. It didn't come in their life-time. So we who look forward to God's promise to rid the earth of badness or some other thing, may not live to see it. Will we be upset? No, because as the Psalmist sang, "One day in your (God's) courtyards is better than a thousand spent elsewhere".
