This isnt much of a studyguide as the title says but an overview of what Hebrews is about and what those scary verses mean.
God led me to do i donno a 9 hour hardcore study on Hebrews , quite frankly alot of people struggle with these hebrew verses and I want explain to drummingman and the rest who get scared of this what these hebrews verses mean.
Im ripping some of this off the email directly that I sent to a friend
Before I get into the verses that are scaring you Im gonna go through what hebrews was supposed to be about and who the author was referring to.
The author of the book of Hebrews was speaking to the Jews it seems. Not just any Jew but the Jews who came to knowledge of Jesus Christ. And they were getting temptations on forsaking Christ and going back to the Old Testament Law which is a works-based salvation.
And this was very very dangerous to them. It explains here in this verse that they were insulting the Holy Spirit of grace and basically trampling Jesus under foot.
Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
This wasnt just a boo boo this was major. Its falling away from their salvation. Theyre saying "Jesus isnt good enough" It was an insult. They were shaming Him.
Anyway in the letter of hebrews the author is trying to explain that Jesus was better than everyone, humans, angels, prophets and so forth. These Jews apparantly didnt look at Jesus the Son of God this way, and that is what the author will try to explain to these Jews.
They were tempted to believe Jesus wasnt the only way to Heaven and to God the Father. which we know isnt true.
And as I said this was a very dangerous thing to go back on the Lord, not by sinning and with unbelief or even falling away for a short while but of complete apostacy. You did not abandon Christ. we all fall away at one point of our lives. even with the knowledge of Christ. These people deny Christ, in some ways they are commiting the unpardonable Sin if they die without changing their ways.
Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
So what you got right here is a touch of what Hebrews is about, it is about the Jews reverting back to Judasim and denying their way of salvation through Jesus Christ. Now I can write a book after im done with what God led me to but im only going to touch base, so if you have any questions please ask.. The main points I want to show you is that you are not condemned according to Hebrews 6:4-6 and of coarse Hebrews 10:26-27.
But it is important for you to know what Hebrews is about, to understand verses. Its like that with other books but it is really needed in order to understand Hebrews. Hebrews can be a bit confusing, if you dont know what the writer is speaking about.
Throughout the whole letter this writer is exhorting (persuading) the Jews that noone is better than Jesus Christ. They are saying Jesus is better than all men, Kings, prophets and angels. That God is superior and we need to listen to Him and to trust in Him alone for our salvation. Not our works. They must stop listening to outside sources which are telling the Jews and Hebrews that Jesus was not the only way into Heaven. Again the Jews wanted to revert back to a works-based salvation. Alot of people nowadays try to do that as well. they get caught up into the trap of Legalism. So moving on
Before I get to herbrews 6:4-6 I need you to understand what an apostate is.
Look at the verse:
Hebrews
6-4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
6-5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6-6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame
An apostate is someone who is different than the mere professor of Christ, ones whos lives do not change because they dont really care about God they just profess Him and continue to live and practice Sin.
.an Apostate is someone who truly experianced God and everything about God, they delibratly say to themselves " I dont care about God and His salvation I dont care about Christ as my savior. I want no part in them at ALL. They leave the faith, and they DIE. its too late. its impossible for them to come back to repentance, they are dead, and they dont care they wanted no part in Christ at all. The writer in this book has been trying to get these jews to not walk away from Jesus, the Jews wanted to go back to the OT laws which were based on works.
This isnt you drummingman, the very fact that you want forgivness tells me so. In your post it was full of these "feeling". Truth is these scriptures from Hebrews gets twisted around, alot of times by the enemy and it causes people to doubt if they can come back to God. You can always come back to God. Just repent from your sins and ask God to sincerly forgive you. And He will.
Moving on to Hebrews 10
Well I have to say I enjoyed Hebrews so far
After a study/teaching on it, it really comes together. although there were few parts that were a bit draggy more of th study itself tho lol.
So heres the verses that scare people
None of us should ever be worried about these verses but we should keep them as a warning
I know this was long, but we need to look at the bible in whole for us to understand the contexts, not just some verses out of it.
It was never to be read like that.
I will pray for you my friend. I pray that God strengthens your faith, and Guides you by His Holy Ghost to the path of truth.

Well I have to say I enjoyed Hebrews so far
So heres the verses that scare people
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Hebrews 10:26-27
This was an ending to other verses which were explaining to us How we should be approaching the throne of God when we die. Listen to this:
And having an high priest over the house of God;
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:21-25
I think its awesome that God is telling us in verses 21-25 to approach Him with a good heart and with faith, these are people WITH Christ. more specifically the jews who decided not to abandon Christ for the Old Testament Law, remember the Book of Hebrews is about the Jews heading right for apostacy, they were tempted to forsake Christ.
Anyhoot:
Hebrews 1-:26-27 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
the wilful sin they are speaking about is not just any type of Sin, because we are able to always go back to God, He is willing to take us back. In this case it is speaking about Apostacy again.. When it says recieved knowledge, they arent just talking about any type of knowledge of the gospel, these guys personally experianced God for themselves. They were willing to abandon Christ and if they died, there would be no sacrifice for their sins, why dont they have a sacrifice for sins? Because Jesus was the sacrifice for Sins. and they abandoned that for the Old Testament Law of sacrificing.
Scary thing is the OT sacrificing didnt wash away our Sins like Jesus does with His blood, it only covers them up, its only a temporary atonement, to reconcile with God. Understand what im saying ****? So you have nothing to worry about.
These verses arent even for us, yes it gives us heavey warnings not to forsake Christ, we we have nothing to be afraid of because we are not apostates
None of us should ever be worried about these verses but we should keep them as a warning
