  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many Christians, including myself, have struggled with these verses. I think they are a warning against complacency or indifference toward our walk as Christians. We can't just be born again and then go back to our old ways. I believe God wants us to continuously grow closer and closer to Him throughout our lives as He molds us into want He wants us to be.

If you are afraid that you have stepped over the boundary and have "fallen away," I would say that is a sign that God is still tugging at your heart and you have indeed NOT fallen away.

Repenting is a change of heart where we see that something we did in the past was wrong in God's eyes and we are truely sorry and want to turn from our sin. The ability to do this is a gift from God. I am sure you are able to examine your own heart and have a better idea than I do if your heart has grown cold and you are unable to repent. I am quiet certain, however, that if you had fallen away and were beyond hope you would not be the least bit concerned about these verses. So, if you are worried that you have fallen away, take comfort in your fear of God.

Couple of thoughts.

Hebrews contrasts the old and the new, Moses and Christ, Aaron and Christ High Priest, ongoing sacrifices and one once for all. Heb. 6:4-6 is a warning, therefore, to those who would fall away from Christ, returning to the old way of sacrifices or man/priest as mediator, thus crucifying Christ again as if His sacrifice and position were not enough.

To do so does not bring forth "vegetation" useful to those around you, instead it yields "thorns and thistles". Those things speak of fruit, the one resulting from Christ in you and the other your own efforts. It will be burned, but you would be saved as by fire (1 Cor. 3:15).

another option.... hebrews discusses this present age with the age to come. Not setting the earthly in opposition to the heavenly but showing how the shadow caster casts a working shadow that duplicates the activity in the heaven temple.

Hebrews only makes sense if the people it was being directed at were Torah observant, otherwise the mountain with fire and smoke and thunder argument would fall over as it is a kol v'homer argument.

you are correct, this is what the Lord has revealed to me ;) The Jews back than were tempted to forsake Christ's sacrifice and go back to OT laws. They were in danger of becoming apostates.

You wouldnt believe the stumbling blocks God put in front of me to give me the right direction. I still have like 3 chapters to go, it was an intersting book when you know what it was really about.
