You need to stop mixing up the old covenant with the new covenant and the new covenant is not simply the 10 commandments from the old covenant of law "repackaged."
I teach to forget? I have not forgotten what the 4th commandment is for Israel under the old covenant of law and I am not an Israelite under the law of Moses. Exodus 34:28 is the
OLD COVENANT OF LAW. Once again, who was God addressing when He said remember the sabbath day, to keep it Holy?
Exodus 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying: 2 I am the Lord your God, who
brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Who did God bring out of the land of Egypt? The
Israelites.
Deuteronomy 5:15 - And remember that you were a
slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God
brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God
commanded you to keep the sabbath day.
Exodus 31:16 - The
Israelites are to observe the sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a
sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested. There is no 'US' here.
Perpetual covenant with WHO? The
Israelites. Has the old covenant been made obsolete by the new covenant? (Hebrews 8:13; 2 Corinthians 3:6-9)
The Holy Spirit does not help us obey the 10 commandments under the old covenant of law as a legalistic prescription for salvation. The life of discipleship flows out of the new command, to love one another as He loved us. (
John 13:34) Love fulfills the law. (
Romans 13:8-10) References for the moral aspect of 9 of the 10 commandments are reiterated under the new covenant, yet the command to keep the sabbath day is
not binding on Christians under the new covenant. (
Colossians 2:16-17)
Our 'sabbatismos' rest found in Hebrews 4:9 is in regards to our perpetual rest found in Christ,
in contrast to the weekly sabbath under the law. This describes a period of rest for God’s people which is modeled after and is a fulfillment of the traditional sabbath.
The Greek word "sabbatismos" is used no where else in the Bible.

Hebrews 4:10 says the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. That person has entered in God’s rest through Jesus "rests from his own work" (in contrast of trying to keep the law) as God ceased or rested from His works in the seventh day of creation. God's ultimate, true rest did not come through Joshua or Moses, but through Jesus Christ. Joshua led Israel into the promised land, which was merely the earthly rest which was but a
shadow of what was involved in the heavenly rest. The rest in Christ that God offers is spiritual and is superior to that which Joshua obtained.
Israel's earthly rest was filled with conflict and attacks from their enemies and the daily cycle of work. The "sabbatismos" rest enjoyed uninterruptedly by believers in their fellowship with the Father and the Son,
in contrast with the weekly sabbath under the law, is found only in Christ and not law keeping. Although for centuries the Jews had found their physical rest in a day, the new covenant takes the focus off the shadows of the Old Testament signs and rituals and reveals their spiritual
substance -- the fulfillment/reality—in the person of Jesus Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17)
In Matthew 24:15, we read - Therefore when you see the
'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), 16
then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Who is being addressed here? The
Israelites. Not on the sabbath day because the gates of Jerusalem would be locked and they could not get out. Israel in general has rejected their Messiah and are still seeking to keep the law of Moses. Hence the mention of 'sabbath' years after He descends back to heaven. Exodus 30:8-11 and Isaiah 58:13 is
old covenant. Mixing the old and new covenants together remains your achilles heel.
Under the new covenant, we read - Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a
Sabbath day— 17 things which are a
mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
